Too much video now

App was much better before they added all the video and pod casts. There were more stories to read. Now Sky has decided to cater to the Tik Tok generation who only have a few seconds of attention rather than continuing to provide real news analysis in written form. Shame.

Bias and repetition

Since Andy Burnham became PM, I’ve noticed Sky News question everything he does, and go into great detail about say how can he afford this policy or that policy, and the reporters seemingly undermining everything he says.
Do not recall this type of journalism when the ruinous Tory Party was in power.
Blatant bias I’d say.
Also, as you scroll down the news feeds, the same story pops up again and again- WHY???

Biased news for the right wing

I stopped using the major news outlets several years ago because they are so blatantly biased for the right wing side of news I’m just checking in to see if times have changed but no their still the same right wing rubbish it’s better to avoid all major news outlets and think for yourself find your own news. All Jizeera is far better than sky by miles and I’m from the uk

Too much ads

I very disappointed, too many’s ads running in each news clips

Stop butchering the English language and the endless repetition

As a news outlet you are alright but there is obvious room for improvement. Many of your newscasters struggle with written and spoken English. Many often look a mess - scruffy and unkempt- and reading an autocue is sometimes beyond them. Your continuity managers are poor and the news content presented badly in a sensationalist and repetitive way.

Adverts!!!!!

Bloody adverts loading left right and centre now in a banner at the top. Don’t sky make enough money with out flaunting advertising on users

Absolutely terrible now

For goodness’ sake give the videos a rest. It’s impossible to catch up with a story without watching a video these days. Which is a pain if you’re out and about or at work or in lots of places, to be honest. Sky used to be a respected news source but now it seems to just want to be TikTok. A terrible shame.

In the past this app was great for catching up with the news, either if you wanted a quick look at the main stories or some in-depth analysis. This has now all been replaced with videos - which make it impossible to catch-up quickly and rarely offer any depth (but they do manage to include adverts, of course).
This is a bad change of direction for the app. It makes it much more clunky (videos are so linear, which is a bad thing - unless you’re an advertiser) and much less usable. Please think again, Sky.

Sky News Over BBC

Foremost, this all is beautifully presented and free for everyone upon download (of which is easy and requires little to no set up), along with it being a ad experience it done in such a way that these ads aren’t a must watch nuisance. Only if you would like to watch live TV or play videos. Talking of which, secondly- the live content feature and videos/highlights are very nicely compiled and sum up stories very well. Although this should be the bare minimum a news channel app can provide. Moving on, thirdly, I like the modern UI and the smooth running overall experience. It also has many settings that can be tweaked according to accessibility etc. Something else I will cover is the way the app is categorised like the website into different types of news and locations.

Lastly… the biased content from competitors and the boring presentation (BBC) that comes with that doesn’t appear here. Now whilst I’m not claiming Sky News takes a 0% biased approach to their reporting and processing of produced news content, I will say I do think they are NOT severely or even a little biased. That being said, some details and stats vary from rivals (to be expected with all news platforms and things like GROUND News help to compare bias).

Pair it with the CNN news app and you are covered for all that matters…

Advertising

Far to many adverts

Summer negligence

All their main programmes are on holiday, except The Wrap, and yet they can’t even be bothered to make the full programme available for streaming—only the newspaper review section. As someone who used to watch it religiously every morning, I feel rather neglected!

Too many podcasts

I want to read the news, not listen or view videos. Gone massively wrong.

Stop the barrage of videos

Please just revert to concise written news reports. I like many others it seems do not have time to waste on video clips.

Too many videos (and adverts)

I used to like the Sky News App but have now deleted from my phone. Most of the news articles are videos (with no option to read the article instead). If you select ‘play’ you’re usually greeted with an ad. Perhaps I’m just getting old but, whatever, I’ve enough, it’s not for me anymore.

Website

The old page was better

Terrible editing by a two year old

Grammar, spelling and punctuation very poor across most stories. Cut and paste is so obvious and always has lots of mistakes. My cat could do better.

Jim Smith

Unrequested ads that pop up in a new browser window at the slightest touch have ruined this app. I will be uninstalling I think.

Less videos

To many videos
What news items not videos

Ruined

This app is now mainly just a collection of videos. I used to enjoy reading the news on Sky but now it’s nearly all videos. I will find a different place to read the news.

Now just permanently broken

This app now fails to fully load the home page with 60% of items greyed out and unresponsive to touch input. This is happening on three iPad Pros running OS 16.7.16 All other apps, BBCNews, CNN, YouTube, iPlayer, etc, etc working fine. If this is a case of only the latest iPad OS being fully supported/no legacy OS support and I have to choose between a new iPad and a functional Sky News app, so be it. Sky lose out!
