Don’t Recommend - Not What It Could Be

I got this ages ago because I really loved (and still love) their Forest app. Since then, I’ve tried over and over to make it work, but I just can’t. It hasn’t had a News update thing since 2020 (and that was for Android users), and I think this app has largely fallen off their radar.

Primarily, this is because the app just doesn’t work if you have a sleep schedule that varies by the day. Sometimes I get home from work at 11pm so I can’t go to bed at 10:30pm. They don’t let you change the sleep schedule overall or choose more than two days off. My workaround has been to change the bedtime and wake up goal each time I need to go to sleep (since they also don’t let you sleep before 2 hours before your bedtime goal). The app also doesn’t let you go to sleep at anytime PAST your bedtime, even by a minute. It’s genuinely insane. The same workaround I mentioned earlier works for me, but it would be nice to have a way to have multiple “sleep schedules” or have a grace period that the user could choose around the sleep / wake up time.

Seemingly you can’t also can’t demolish buildings without losing the sleep data… why?? I mainly got the app so I would record sleep data, so I’m not super happy about having to keep demolished buildings (as, in my opinion, it’s also too expensive to demolish them anyway).

I’d love for this to be more like Forest, where you can filter the plants you see by day/week/month/year and there could even be a lifetime option. I don’t want to be forced to see my demolished buildings from 5 months ago when I (heaven forbid) woke up too early because I had work I needed to do. It shows the week on the default page, but I think the options for the time span would be nice to see in the The Big Town tab! I’d also love to see a stopwatch option for sleeping, similar to how forest has a stopwatch for studying. Sometimes, I want the data, even if I didn’t have perfect sleep times!!

Finally (and this is also an issue in Forest) the app just logs you out mistakenly a lot. Right now, it has my account in Settings but “Please sign in first.” on the Achievements page. I don’t personally mind it that much, but it’s just a bit annoying that the two pages are contradicting each other.

FAQ

What does SleepTown do?

SleepTown is an app designed to help users develop healthy sleep habits. It gamifies the process by allowing users to construct virtual buildings in a town by achieving their daily bedtime and wake-up goals. The app aims to reduce phone addiction at night and promote a regular sleep schedule.

How do I build buildings in SleepTown?

To build buildings, you need to set a bedtime and wake-up goal within the app. Before your bedtime goal, open SleepTown to start constructing a building. If you wake up before your wake-up goal and shake your phone, you will see which building you've successfully constructed. Failing to meet your goals or using your phone during sleeping time will result in the destruction of the building.

Is SleepTown free to use?

Yes, SleepTown is free to download and use. The app offers in-app purchases, which likely allow users to unlock additional buildings or customization options for their town.

What are the benefits of using SleepTown?

SleepTown helps users beat phone addiction, maintain regular sleep hours, and wake up to a daily reward in the form of a new building. It also allows users to view their sleep statistics, design their town, and even join circles with friends and family to build healthy sleep habits together.

Can I use SleepTown with friends and family?

Yes, SleepTown now allows users to build with family and friends. You can invite them to join your SleepTown circle and work towards the same sleep goals together, making the process of building healthy sleep habits more collaborative and fun.
