If you live in Philadelphia GOOD LUCK. Speed bumps & pot holes. You would never get a good score. This app is designed for you never to get a good discount. Time of day driving?!? I guess never go to work or out on the weekends. I’m glad AAA ended it.

I really enjoyed the whole experience using the smart trek app. I was disappointed in the results for smooth driving. It seemed to me when I put the car in cruise control, which also had Hill assist. And breaking assist, I could feel the shifts more than when I was just driving without cruise control. I know I don’t jerk the car off the line to speed away or to speed up and break hard. Overall, a great experience. That was the one thing that I thought it wasn’t right on

Overall the app is a good tool to improving individual driving habits, it makes you aware of all the small habits (some good and some not so good) we all pick up after driving for many years.
The one negative issue the app has, it cannot tell when a person is driving on a hilly area.

Tracking is wrong
I purposely drove on an empty street. Drove between 20 & 25 mph, 5 mph below the speed limit. There was only 1 stop light. I started to slow down a full street away and rolled at 2 mph to the light before coming to a stop. My coffee barely moved when I came to a full stop. When I came back the next day to review the trip, I got a 68 for smooth driving, and 65 for speed. As expected, this app is NOT accurate. Why are we handcuffed to this awful app for a discount on car insurance?

However we & all should be very sincere while you drive. We should & must follow all rules & regulations. We always care for on board passengers & others on road cars & pedestrians. I don’t use my phone at all while driving and still my score is 90. I wonder why my score isn’t 100 if I don’t use my phone at all?
Fix the issue
They need to fix the app for example i confirm a trip and it says that I used the phone while driving or I breaking hard or accelerating when I don’t do all of the reckless driving I don’t use my phone at all If they know that my phone is all the time connected to my car of course I will pickup through my car so that way I’m not distracted by it.

Big brother is watching
To get my insurance discount this app wants to monitor me 24 hours a day. I’m ok with monitoring me while I’m driving but it is a invasion of my privacy to have to have the app monitor while I’m not driving. I’m considering switching insurance companies.
SMARTtrek responded to my review. They make it seem like it’s normal to invade my privacy by wanting 24/7/365 tracking of my whereabouts. As I said before, I’d AAA explained it that way I never would have taken the insurance. If I’m a passenger in a car it’s tracking me, if I’m riding my bike it’s tracking me. Any activity not involving driving my car is none of their business. NONE.

Will not delete from phone
Finished my AAA safe driving time and deleted the APP but it is still asking if I am driving when I finish my trip! Why??
Frustrating
I really don’t like this app at all. It’s not user friendly. You have to consciously remember to remove yourself if you didn’t drive within 24 hours or you’re stuck with someone else’s driving being recorded. It doesn’t tell you where you were docked so you can’t check to see if it’s correct or not or figure out how you can improve your driving. Tonight I drove 5 miles and never went more than one mile over the speed limit and I scored an 86.

If you don’t even touch your phone while driving you still don’t get the highest rating. Turn your phone off and it wont record the trip. It’s a lose, lose.
Hate this app!
Issues with phone, smooth driving, speed, time of day! You guys need to look at this app and redesign it if I’m to use this app then it should be fair on how it rates your driving! Look at other insurance company’s driving apps and use that as a base because your app is not cutting it with me! I really think you should start all over and get it right the second time around!

Tips to score well
I was notified today that my final score was ready. This was after almost 9 months, 750 trips, and a bit over 5300 miles. A final score of 89 got me the max discount of 20%. The most important thing is to secure your phone so it never moves while driving. I set it on a small rubber pad in the phone tray and plugged it in each time. It is also very important that you don’t go over the speed limit, even by 1-2 mph. Be aware of your speed and use cruise control. Always drive in eco mode, accelerate gradually, and brake gradually well ahead of the stopping point. Don’t follow vehicles closely. Stay in the slow lane. Pay attention to the metrics in the app and adjust your habits. Anyone can do this, it just takes self discipline.

Comically Bad
Don’t even bother taking the small insurance discount, it’s practically a scam. The app regularly dings you for nonsense. It continuously give me “poor phone habits” while my phone is in my pocket for the duration of the trip. No hands free. No music playing. In my pocket doing nothing yet it still says poor phone habits.
