Frustrating and unreliable employee app
Sona is one of the most frustrating employee apps I have ever used. An app that is supposed to make managing rotas, holidays and shifts easier instead creates unnecessary stress and confusion for both employees and managers.
The app has several serious issues:
* Rota problems: Difficult to view and manage shifts properly. Changes are not always clear, making it difficult to know what your actual working schedule is.
* Holiday requests: The holiday request system is confusing and does not make the process as straightforward as it should be.
* Shift swaps: The lack of a proper, simple shift-swap function makes it unnecessarily difficult for employees to exchange shifts.
* Staff availability: Managing availability is not as easy or intuitive as it should be, which creates problems when planning rotas.
* Clocking in and out: Problems and limitations with recording hours worked can create confusion and frustration for employees.
* Notifications and messages: Notifications are not always reliable or clear, meaning important information can easily be missed.
* App performance: Freezing, glitches and a confusing interface make the overall experience frustrating.
* Missing basic features: For an employee scheduling app, it is disappointing that basic functions are either missing or unnecessarily complicated.
For a hospitality business, where rotas, staff availability, shift changes and accurate working hours are essential, these issues can have a real impact on the daily operation.
Sona needs a serious improvement in usability, reliability and functionality. Instead of making work easier, it often makes things more complicated.
A proper employee app should save time, reduce confusion and support both staff and management. Unfortunately, Sona currently falls short of that.

Awful system
One of the worst rota platforms I’ve used in 30 years of hospitality. Stear well clear
The payslip is inferior
Sona payslip 🤮🤮🤮🤮
Poorly
Unfortunately the app is poorly thought out , does not integrate into calendars , doesn’t show calendar views so unable to get complete view , would give a wide berth
Terrible
This app is a huge downgrade from Rotaready. It manages to make even the simplest tasks unnecessarily difficult.
You can’t properly view your monthly schedule, weekly hours are unclear, it’s impossible to easily see who’s working, and the interface is confusing and poorly designed. Even tracking your own shifts and hours feels frustrating.
Instead of improving the employee experience, this app has made it significantly worse. It’s slower, less intuitive, and missing features that should be basic in any scheduling app.
I genuinely don’t understand how this replaced a system that worked so well. Please listen to user feedback and make major improvements—or bring back the previous app.

Nice app
My employer uses it for us to manage our rotas and other things. The only thing that would be great to have is the rota in the form of a calendar. It would make it some my easier to see the shifts my scrolling it by months then weeks like it is at the moment. Obviously, not all companies plan rotas month ahead but it still would be easier to see on which day you're meant to work or not.

Operational Concerns Regarding the Sona Scheduling System
The transition to the Sona scheduling application has created several operational challenges for staff. While the goal of implementing new scheduling technology is understood, the current functionality of the platform has made scheduling processes significantly more complex and less efficient.
Below are several of the primary concerns experienced by team members:
Operational Limitations
• Shift Swaps: Employees are currently unable to perform shift swaps within the system.
• Released Shifts: Once a shift is released, it cannot be canceled or reclaimed by the employee who released it.
• Management Approval Requirement: Released shifts must first be approved by management before becoming visible to staff. In many cases, this causes shifts to go unnoticed or unclaimed due to the delay.
• EDO/RO Requests: The system does not appear to allow employees to submit EDO or RO requests, which were previously part of the scheduling process.
Visibility & Transparency Issues
• Employees cannot see where coworkers are scheduled, making coordination and shift coverage more difficult.
• The app currently displays all job classifications, which creates confusion when trying to identify shifts relevant to a specific department or position.
Technical Performance Issues
• The “View Schedule” feature is inconsistent, sometimes showing an employee’s schedule correctly and other times displaying incomplete or incorrect information.
• The app has demonstrated frequent glitches and instability during normal use.
• The app constantly sends alerts of “open shifts” to which there are actually none
User Experience Concerns
• The application currently holds a 1-star rating in the App Store with virtually no positive feedback, which reflects the widespread user frustration with its functionality.
• Rather than simplifying scheduling, the system has added additional complexity to what was previously a straightforward process.
There are likely additional issues that staff may identify over time, but the concerns listed above represent the most immediate operational obstacles being experienced.

Hour
You can’t see your total hours as an employee you can’t see total combined work hours as an employee
Lacks features
Unable to swap shifts, request off, see others shifts, hard to read the font choice. The list goes on
Horrible

This app is so bad. Please don’t use it. If you are a manager, run!
The worst UI in existence. Can’t swap shifts. Everything is hidden. All shifts from all departments show up on the same list. Once you release a shift you can’t cancel the request. I’m sure there will be more problems soon. Bring back HotSchedules!!!
Horrible app!!!
Honestly, that’s the worst app for schedule I ever used! There’s tons of things missing: you can’t set your availability, there’s no tool to request days off, I can’t swap my shifts with other coworkers, there’s no difference between regular shift and on call shifts you gotta check your notes for that, the interface is a mess (I can definitely keep going on this list) besides that, the app has a function that’s totally USELESS: a map to show where you’re working Lol what’s the point? How would you be scheduled to a place you don’t know where is located that you need a map to find it?! lol
Well, I’m pretty sure whoever developed this app never worked in a restaurant!

HotSchedules my goat fr
This app stinks. Never leave the glorious kingdom of HotSchedules. No matter how much gold they promise
the WORST app i’ve ever HAD to use
i’d give zero stars if I could.
my job switched over from hotschedules to this monstrosity of an app— inferface is not user friendly, has no option to set availability or ask for time off, you cannot see any released shifts from coworkers, you can’t see when your coworkers are scheduled to help with swaps and coverage, there’s no syncing with Apple calendar or Google calendar, among many other things.
It is simply the worst. Even the managers at my job hate it. I cannot understand why an app designer or company would allow such an abysmal app to be released for use to the public. Go back to the drawing board and try again. A scheduling app should make my work life easier, not harder.

Worst app ever
This is the worst work app I’ve ever used. No shift swaps, no requests off in the app, can’t cancel a released shift, can’t see exactly where you’re scheduled & much more. This is the exact opposite of an “employee app”
Please add more.
Review based off of restaurant employee experience.
I feel like this app just got marketed to employers as an affordable alternative but lacks essential features like swapping shifts, auto-pickups, and requesting time off. I can’t even see which other coworkers are working the same shift. This app seems incomplete and I’m hoping I can come back and improve my rating, but for now, it deserves 1 star.

Wow
Why are companies using this broken app. It can’t be that cheap. Features don’t even work as intended
Date
Please how is date not showing anymore when you click on the staff member's rota can this be fixed I can't allocate properly can I can't see the date I'm allocating for
Needs lots of improvement
While this is a good effort but the app needs lot of improvement works and functionality addition.
