About

Spēnd splits what a group spends, and tells you where your own money went. SCAN A BILL, SPLIT IT BY ITEM Point the camera at a receipt and Spēnd reads every line off it, item by item, with the tax and the tip. Pick a person, tap the things they ordered, and tax and tip distribute in proportion to what each of you actually had. Anything the lines don't cover lands on whoever paid, so the bill always nets to zero. The scan runs on your phone. Nothing is uploaded to read it, there's no monthly quota, and it works with no signal. FIVE WAYS TO SPLIT Equal, by fixed amounts, by percentage, by shares, or item by item. Equal splits count heads, so a couple sharing one entry owes two shares. Split rules let a household set rent at 75/25 once instead of on every bill. SETTLE UP IN THE FEWEST PAYMENTS Spēnd nets everyone down to the smallest set of transfers, then hands off to Venmo, Cash App, PayPal.Me or Revolut with the amount already filled in. PayPal.Me carries the currency too, which matters when the trip wasn't priced in dollars. BUILT FOR TRAVEL Every expense keeps its own currency and the rate on the day you spent it. Rates refresh daily, cache for offline, and fall back to a rate you type yourself. When the market has moved since the trip, Spēnd shows you what settling at today's rate would cost instead of quietly picking one. WORK TRIPS Turn the splitting off and Spēnd gathers and categorises instead. Mark what you can claim back, and export a PDF report with every line, the exchange rate, and each photographed receipt appended as its own page. It warns you about missing receipts before you send it, not after finance sends it back. HOUSEHOLDS A shared apartment never ends, so Spēnd reads it a month at a time. Square August while September fills up behind it. A payment settles the oldest month first, and a receipt found late reopens the month it belongs to rather than quietly disappearing into this one. SHARE A GROUP, OR DON'T Sharing is opt-in per group and uses the Apple or Google account you already have. Solo use never signs in to anything and works fully offline. CHOOSE THE PAPER IT PRINTS ON Five papers, from cream through kraft to near-black. Three of them are a light and a dark printing that follow your phone on their own, so the ledger reprints itself at sunset. YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS No Spēnd account, ever. Your ledger lives on your device. Nothing is uploaded to read a receipt, and receipt photos never reach our servers. We run no analytics and no ads. The only thing we hold is a group you choose to share: its expenses, names and payout handles, so every phone in it sees the same ledger. PAY ONCE Two full groups free, with unlimited quick splits. One payment of $4.99 removes the limit, forever, on every device signed in to your Apple ID, and Family Sharing covers the rest of your household. No subscription, no ads, and nothing is feature-gated: the only thing the free tier meters is how many full groups you create. Groups you already made never lock, and export is never gated. ALSO IN THE BOX - Home and Lock Screen widgets showing what you're owed across every group - A cross-group figure, so you know your position without opening anything - Burn rate, category breakdown, and what's sustainable to finish on budget - Recurring expenses, for the bills that arrive on the same day every month - Your ledger on your iPhone and your iPad, through your own iCloud - On iPad, your groups sit beside the one you're reading - CSV export for a spreadsheet, PDF for the group - Share cards that carry no names and no per-person amounts

What's New in Spēnd

1.1.0

September 29, 2026

A new look. Choose the paper your ledger prints on, from cream through kraft to near-black, and the app icon changes with it. Three of the five follow your phone between light and dark on their own. Receipts read better. Discounts, coupons and buy-one-get-one credits now come off the item they belong to, so each line shows what was actually paid. A price the camera only half read is recovered from the receipt's own subtotal when the numbers make it certain, and anything the app isn't sure about is flagged for a second look. On iPad, your groups sit in a column beside the one you're reading, and a landscape iPad opens the receipt in a third. Your own groups can now follow you between iPhone and iPad through your own iCloud. It's off until you turn it on in Settings. Also fixed: adding someone by name no longer crashes, a shared group updates while you're looking at it, and sharing a group is simpler to get through.
