Not a bad but abandoned

Not a bad little app/website for planning out your training. I would say it’s main unique feature is planning your weight increases through the coming weeks.

Unfortunately, there’s been little activity or updates that I can find on the web. It seems like the dev has abandoned the project

Pretty good, but not as good as official SS app

Great to have access to intermediate and other programs. But the SS app is simply a better design, more user friendly. It doesn’t help that the SC app at the moment is twitchy and some of its functionality is down, but the browser app is having the same problems so maybe it’s not fair to single app the iOS app over it.

Ok

Needs to be updated badly

Constantly freezing

Frequently the app freezes and I have to close it and restart. I don’t have time for that in the gym.

No way to change kg to lbs?

Doesn’t seem to include this option. If they do, it’s damned difficult to find. Wish this app was more user friendly.

Overpriced, unintuitive, and cumbersome

Setting up workout programs is tedious, and I can’t imagine actually using the app in the gym. There are free apps that work better because they focus on one workout program and are streamlined.

If you need 10+ different programs all in one, then I guess this is the app for you, but otherwise you can probably find a better alternative for less money.

Seems like a beta program

Having used the existing starting strength app I was exited to see this so I could continue with the Texas method. After two weeks using it here are the snags I’ve hit so far:
* if you add a program you must complete it; be careful what you add
* when you complete a program you must wait until the next day to schedule your next set
* there doesn’t seem to be a way to program in an AMRAP set
* there isn’t a rest timer
I’m writing this hoping the developer reads it and fixes the issues

Response from developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback. 1. you can remove any program you've created at any time, just click the hamburger menu and click "delete current program". 2. You can add as many cycles as you'd like, one after the other. 3. We don't use AMRAP but its on our to-do list. 4. We have a rest timer, its on the reps and sets page when you start a workout.

Still missing basic features

This app is still missing basic features. For example, you can’t handle missed workouts or sets/reps. I am hoping that this changes soon.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback. We have just added in missed reps / sets. Adjusting your whole cycle due to missed reps is coming soon. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Can’t get into the app...

You have to create an account to use the app. However, I never received the confirmation email. Checked my spam email box and all that. I clicked the forgot password button and got that email, but still no confirmation email. When attempting to login, I just get a message which says email not confirmed. With no way to resend that email, the app is DOA.

Please check your spam or email me and I will activate your account. Thanks.

Who knows what you’ll get.

You have to register before you even find out how much it costs ($10 per month). Is it worth it? Who knows, you don’t get to see any of the app before you pay.
Note to developers: a list of features is not a remotely useful way for a potential customer to evaluate an app. User-interface is everything. If I can’t see that it’s well designed and actually works, I’m not about to sign up for monthly payments.

No Trial

I use the Starting Strength app and enjoy it. I was considering trying this one out, but there is no trial to see what the app looks like👎🏼👎🏼

Response from developer

We offer a money back guarantee, if you don't like the app just email me and I will provide a full refund.

Two Week trial appears false

I downloaded app and was excited to try as I’ve used the original starting strength app extensively. I registered and confirmed new account, but no options exist for trial period, only paid options. Not going to spend $10-$80 without the trial.

Response from developer

Thanks, we have removed the free trial for now (but it will be back soon). We offer a full refund if you don't like the app, just email and I will get it done for you.

Essential app for SS training

If your a follower of starting strength and looking for an easy to use training log and program creator app then look no further. Every thing is custom templates from the practical programming and barbell prescription books starting with novice to advanced. There is the ability to create your own programming if you wish with a fair list of alternate exercises that can be plugged in. Very easy to set up. During training I like the use of plate calculations and timers which have all been pretty flawless. No issues with recording sets and reps as the training progressed. The ability to go online as well is handy for on the go updates or changes to programming. I own all the apps from this developer and have experienced no major issues, maybe one or two glitches as the new app was getting fleshed out. Nothing that would make me feel I’m getting ripped off. Any concerns I’ve had or questions have been answered promptly, and I mean same day, and resolved in due haste. Quite surprising given the pandemic of poor customer service that exists in the app arena. You will see through the app and service that these developers are passionate about what this app is meant for and respect the essence of what Starting Strength is about. Heavy sets of practicality with no fluff.

Great for those new to Starting Strength

This is a great app if you are new to the Starting Strength program. It is an easy way to get starting lifting right. You can design training cycles like the Novice Linear Progression or the Texas Method. Choose your cycle, pick your exercises, set up your warm-up and work-set weight and hit the gym. You can log your workouts and track your progress.
