User reviews

Overall, I really like the programming

I’m a big fan of the bodybuilding track because I needed to rebuild muscle after taking some time off. Once I’m where I want to be, I’ll probably switch over to the conditioning track.

It’s solid programming you can do on your own alongside CrossFit, especially if you’re working out from home and can’t always get to the gym.

I do wish the bodybuilding track included warm-ups, but I’ve just been making up my own. For the strength and conditioning track, I’d love an option with more advanced movements for people who also do CrossFit. There’s never anything with handstands, muscle-ups, double-unders, or Olympic lifts — it leans heavily toward simpler movements. I end up modifying some sessions to add that stuff myself.

I’m still not totally convinced Playbook is the ideal platform for this program, but it’s workable. It took a little while to get used to, and I do like being able to see all the workouts at once rather than weekly drops. I get why they format it that way to discourage people from copying the programming, but it also makes me wonder how often new workouts will be added and how long the app will stick around. Some people might get bored or just copy everything and cancel.

I also appreciate the simple nutrition guidance, even though I don’t personally need it.

The “for men” branding is a bit odd, but I’m a 46-year-old dad so I guess I fit the target demographic.

Timer

Workouts are great but the timer is very glitchy. Randomly can’t edit it, takes multiple restarts.

Confusing and inefficient

My wife has used the NCFit app in the past and really enjoyed it. I am recently in between programs and looking to try it, signing up and activating with the newer version of this app is inefficient and clunky. I can’t even speak to the quality of the workout. Going to be $30 donation and a hard pass for me.

Best Programming For Jiu Jitsu

The Train Hard “Force” program has gotten me into the best shape by any measure in my life and I’m 49 years old. It got me running again, helped me drop 26 pounds, and supports my Jiu Jitsu schedule perfectly. Simply put, it’s the best combat sports adjacent / supportive program I’ve ever used. The app UX is simple and easy to understand, I’ve also bought and cross trained the sandbag program with groups of buddies in public places. The whole thing is incredibly valuable.

Flex Program Review

It’s a bummer that each workout block does not have links to the exercise videos. Train hard has a library in YouTube, but it’s hidden in the website and there is no search function other than scrolling forever. I know how to do most exercises but I like to verify I am doing it according to the programmer.
Also, there is no daily explanation of methodology for the workouts, applying a “myo” concept is great… except it’s not explained very well.
Feel like the programming is good, but application is not great especially compared to other similar programs. Bummer.
