The clunkiest app around

At first, the front page was stuck on an article from a few months ago. I uninstalled and reinstalled and now nothing loads at all. So glad I got a “free” tote bag for my trouble.

App is horrible

Delete and reinstall, clear cache, nothing works.

Fantastic writing, annoying ads

I would pay an additional $10 per month for an ad-free experience across the app and website—no display ads, sponsored recommendations, autoplay, promotional pop-ups, or nonessential tracking. Please add this as a distinct subscription tier

Games UX poor

The games UX is really bad. If you want to do past puzzles, you have to guess at what you’ve previously done, it doesn’t show you before opening a puzzle. The partner mode is glitchy. Furthermore, if you switch doing the puzzle between devices, you lose all your progress on the new device. Super frustrating experience for something as simple as a… crossword.

Doesn’t work

Main page and games just show a blank screen. Same process blew over and over

Terrible and inconsistent

The app repeatedly and inconsistently freezes and does not display content. It will appear to be working and then freeze on a white screen. Online chat help is useless.

Biased reporting

What a racist bigoted antisemitic litter-box wrapper the New Yorker has become. What a fall from its glory days of in depth, impartial journalism. I cancelled my subscription after 3 years of its historically illiterate analysis of the Middle East. The omissions and fabrications, the absence of historical perspective, the ideological vs factual reporting, leads one to wonder,
are there any adults left in the press room? Disgraceful, and a sad illustration of how pandering to the lowest common denominator, the clamoring antizionist, has so tarnished a once respectable journal.

Worst app

The New Yorker has good content but the app is terrible. Difficult to navigate particularly if you want Audio content. Some of it is at the Listen link but not all of it so you need to bounce around. And the AI audibility is awful. Finally, the privacy choices take a half hour to even find and I do not trust Condé Nast to abide by my choices.

Why does the app STILL regularly forget sibscription status?????????

No other app does this. Why??? Seemingly every week I open this app and—after waiting for the app to wake up and update—click on an article only to be met with the splash screen telling me to subscribe or renew. Then once I click Log in it says “with the same accounts and yeah!!!What else would I be doing???? I’m sure there is some data-mining reason for this repeated nonsense but can someone PLEASE FIX IT. (Also your search engine is still worthless.)

Frustrated

I love The New Yorker like some people love their Bible. But signing in to the app though I am an active paying member is a frazzled unsatisfactory experience. For example, after signing in with my email username I never receive a verification code. I get very frustrated and a little old lady I have limited skills and patience.

Cannot download for Mac Pro

Reading New Yorker digitally is so difficult! The website is a mess. I can’t read the latest issue page by page easily. The app is even worse, since it won’t work on many devices (with a little older iOS). It is most difficult to read the content digitally!

Can’t use it

I used to like this app a lot, but I’m no longer able to sign in. This isn’t user error. I assumed it was actually a bug that someone would get around to eventually, but the automated Condé Nast sign in link genuinely doesn’t work, so… I’ll just have to delete the app. And potentially reconsider my subscription, since I can’t access this content on the go.

Garbage

I’m a digital subscriber. But the app refuses to open. The New Yorker help desk is equally useless. The website still works. The app, though, is garbage.

Needs update

Recently the app started crashing any time I try to open one of the “classic” articles I’ve saved.

Worthless app

It is virtually impossible to enter enough credentials to be allowed to read the magazine. I’m a hair away from cancelling a magazine I’ve subscribed to for 5 decades. FGD app.

Love the content, hate the AI “voice”

I left Apple News and subscribed to this app because I love the wide variety of content (and the games, too!). But one thing I can’t get over is how the articles are narrated by an AI “voice.” It was really jarring to go from listening to human narrated articles on Apple News to AI narration on The New Yorker (honestly, still can’t believe it’s not the other way around). Please *Please* consider changing this - I know it’s probably cheaper and easier to use it, but it leaves an “ick” on these great human produced articles.

Subscription scam

They're just scammers.
I fell for an Instagram ad and bought a three-month trial for $7. I was supposed to get a tote bag as well, but it never arrived. Then, without any notification, they charged me $150, which is a very big amount of money for me and of course, it’s non-refundable.

Response from developer

Thank you for your review, @Afesome. The three-month subscription was a trial offer, and the renewal price is outlined in the subscription terms at the time of sign-up. A renewal reminder is also sent by email 35 days before the trial period ends. As for the tote bag, please email your subscription information to support@newyorker.com, and our team will be happy to look into it for you.

Audio issues

Please fix the audio. It is so very glitchy !!!! Half the time it just refuses to start. Especially bad for downloaded articles. Very frustrating
