Gets in the way
Subscribe and they’ll repeatedly interpret you actually trying to read it by advertising IN YOUR FACE pop ups and trying to get you to pull in your friends with free get-interrupted too subscription. They don’t respond or react to feedback.
Autoplay video
There’s no way to stop news or advert video from Autoplaying. Extremely irritating to the point I make a mental note to never have anything to do with unstoppable ad video company’s. Reading the news is why I installed the app in the first place, so the unstoppable news clips are just an annoyance. 5 stars for the app if these vids can be definitively stopped. A work around is to uninstall the app and instead visit the web page and login, then a selection of adblock extensions remove these annoyances. Update Aug 2nd 2026 - video ads and alleged news video still autoplaying…

Useless pop-ups!
Why do you serve popup windows at the bottom of the screen that can not be closed?
I need you!!
I get my leg pulled by my family because I believe everything in it. If for some reason it fails to load on my iPad I don’t feel that I can start the day.
A Sneak Peek at England
It’s 2:30 AM New York time and I’m taking a quick look at events across the pond.
The Telegraph offers vignettes of Britain struggling with unaccustomed hot weather with Doctors not allowed to use air conditioning to take blood samples. I would think that there would be exceptions from any ban where health and safety are involved. But sadly, not.
I study online with courses offered by Cambridge University and the Telegraph helps me keep in touch with some of my classmates.

Scam Ads
It’s incredibly sad that I have to delete this app because I’m sick of the scam laden ads. Replaced with Safari bookmark and uBO ad blocker. Do not use web app as this will bypass ad blocker.
No dark mode
Most other newspapers and magazine apps have adopted dark mode years ago. Essential for late night reading. No excuses for beind lazy about adapting software to the present, and comparatively, to others in recent past. NYT and The Times have had it for years.
Worst paper to subscribe to
Once in a way whenever I try to use my subscription and try to read the paper, after logging in via the app, it always takes me on to ‘The Telegraph’s’ ‘ premium puzzles screen with only these two options
1. Free for 3 months and then £29.99 per month
2. Claim your offer. Cancel anytime.
3. Need to restore an app purchase? Click here
When I use the 3rd option it cycles me right back to this screen. Already wasted too much time trying to resolve this issue. When I tried to cancel the subscription online I got the message that I have to actually make a phone call to The Telegraph UK and ask their call handler to cancel it. Well I tried that only to be told I cannot cancel the subscription online or by calling The Telegraph. Now apparently I have to call up Apple and request them to cancel it. I going to do that now. But remember guys , NEVER make the mistake I made.

Difficult to cancel
I downloaded to read an article but then cancelled. They still took payments, so I contacted them and eventually they confirmed my subscription was cancelled but recently another payment was taken out and I don’t know how to cancel this as I have no access to the app or subscription in my account settings.

😡 Cancellation Process 😡
No in app cancellation, phone lines closed on Sundays, long winded 10 minute phone call asking if I’m sure I want to cancel and repeating back to me every single word I say to make sure I want to cancel…YES I WANT TO CANCEL!! 🤯
Crashes constantly on a iPhone.
Great content, but frustrating to use on an iPhone - every time you try and enlarge a picture or graphic it crashes and reboots at the home page. It’s fine on the iPad.

Puzzles not loading
I downloaded the app in the hope that puzzles would reliably load. Unfortunately it has the same problem as a browser on iPad and iPhone that puzzles very often taken ages to load or not at all. This has been happening for months. Why can’t it be fixed, especially as you charge extra for puzzles.
Stop nagging me to sell subscriptions for you!
A pop up asking me to share a link for a subscription pops up every couple of key presses on iPad. STOP IT!

Intrusive pop-ups!
The ios app is generally stable and responsive. Mid week content good, though a lot of weekend content is rehashed earlier articles. Recently, you cannot move between articles without constant annoying pop-ups offering to share the articles with a non subscriber. This needs to be curtailed.

The journalism is excellent, but couldn’t justify 200 quid for the year, so I’m glad they offered it to me for 20 quid
Pop ups ruining app
I’ve been using the Telegraph app for a couple of years. It’s largely been good to use and I like the news content. However the Telegraph uses pop ups adverts, which are really annoying. But recently they have started using pop up adverts for subscriptions. They invite me to pass on an offer of 4 months free app access to a friend. These are both repetitive and infuriating. You have actually click on the X to close them. I’ve had them three times this morning whilst reading today’s edition of the telegraph. It makes the app unusable. Paying subscribers should be able to select a ‘don’t show me this offer again’ option rather than be repeatedly bombarded with this unwanted advertising. If it continues I will be seeking a new provider of news/current affairs.
