In the middle
I have loved my experience on the thumbtack app, meeting great customers some who have become recurring clients. The only major issue I have is when it comes to reviewing refunds and the refund policy.
Major 2 issues have seen:
1. If I receive a direct lead respond in seconds and they’ve booked someone well before the lead was sent why should I be charged for that.
2. If you’ve communicated with a client (as have other pros) and no one has been contracted for weeks to a month, we should all be reimbursed immediately.
These issues must be reviewed and resolved or the app will be more of a liability than a resource.
Major 2 issues have seen:

Wish I was allow to speak my mind how disgusting this company! Please stay as far away from this company as possible and PROTECT your finances! they are straight up thieves. Thumbtack will say their intention is to help match the client with the right business which is an absolute lie. They know for a fact that majority of client only use their platform just to price check, negotiate and are cheap people. There is a 100% guaranteed you WILL lose alot of money! And very likely won’t get most clients that select your business. Thumbtack are clearly taking advantage of small businesses. Wish this company get sue and ban asap!

Dedicated Phone Numbers Hurt Contractors and Lead Quality Has Declined
I’ve been using Thumbtack for years, but the recent changes have made it significantly harder to run my business. The new dedicated phone number system is one of the biggest mistakes they’ve made. Homeowners now see “Thumbtack” instead of my business name when I call, so many assume it’s spam and never answer. That hurts conversion rates and makes it harder to build trust from the very first interaction. Many other pros have reported the same experience since this change. Lead quality has also declined while prices continue to increase. Contractors are paying more for leads that often don’t respond, are just price shopping, or never turn into real jobs. Instead of helping professionals grow their businesses, it feels like Thumbtack is adding more barriers between us and our customers. I’ve invested thousands of dollars into this platform over the years, and it’s disappointing to see the direction it’s has taken. Unless Thumbtack restores direct communication and improves lead quality, I can’t recommend it to other service professionals.

The app is made to get the most money from you. They sent leads that not exist in the real life , refund policy is really bad. Be carful using it it can drain your card pretty fast and you still going to be without your jobs

getting charged for fake leads
Not sure how they have it set up, I am getting charged for leads to customers that have already found pros on thumbtack. I’m not sure what is going on if this is some kind of theft or an error I’m getting charged for leads that have already been taken care of by other pros seems a bit shady.
Useful and functional
We find this app to be helpful for finding leads and marketing our business. One suggestion for developers is to improve responsiveness for app icons - for example, after a new message is read, the icon remains despite trying to get it to go away.
Professionals Should Be Very Careful With Direct Leads
I’ve received several direct leads through Thumbtack and was charged for each one. I replied promptly and professionally, but most of the customers never responded at all.
The most recent customer communicated with me and scheduled a Zoom consultation. I reserved the time, prepared for the call, and joined on time, but the customer never showed up and did not respond afterward. Thumbtack still kept the full lead fee.
I was also charged for a lead from someone specifically looking for a guitarist, even though my profile clearly states that I am a pianist and I do not provide guitar services. My refund request was denied, and I received no response when I disputed it again.
I understand that paying for a lead does not guarantee a booking, but professionals should not be charged for completely mismatched requests, customers who never respond, or people who schedule appointments and then fail to attend.
In my experience, Thumbtack gets paid regardless of whether the lead is relevant or genuine, while the professional takes all the financial risk. The direct lead system feels misleading and unfair to small-business owners. I would not recommend it.

Customer named Angie H. left me a 1 star review for “dishonest pricing” because I quoted the job a bit higher than my $65 per hour. The job was to hang outdoor security cameras and light.
The problem is: there’s a 2-hour minimum per visit. Which she intentionally ignored. My estimate was $150-$200 depending on height. I charge more for a risk of falling, too many people break bones falling off the ladder. That’s when she gave me a 1-star review. Okay, no problem
My problem is with Thumbtack, who denied my request for review removal. Not only you charge astronomical lead prices but also refuse to help people who are literally your customers.

Misleading refund policy
I feel like was scammed. Many of the leads I paid for never responded to my messages.
Thumptech’s policy says that if a customer does not respond, you can request a refund, it was denied without fair explanation. I ended paying for the leads that never became real opportunities. I hope Thumptech improves it’s refund process and treats professional more fair

USER BEWARE
I recently got a lead sent to me that I didn’t ask for and they automatically charged me $148 before I even answer…so I said screw it I sent ONE message asking how can I help etc. the customer replies “actually I changed my mind I’m not gonna do the work” that’s it two messages. I basically paid $148 for the person to change their mind. Super unfair to the user

Many broken “features”
Things don’t work, upload, reload, come through at all, support system doesn’t work whatsoever. The links support gave me to fix issues were also dead links. Get ready to pay for things that you have no idea why you’re paying or how much or what your money actually gets you.
Expensive
They charge you a lot for leads. Customers do not know this for the most part. Tons of people just shopping for prices and you get nothing back. Bad interface. Bad usability.
