At first, this app made a great impression. It really does help you find clients, which is why I decided to use it. However, after some time, it became clear that the business model is extremely unfavorable for service providers.
The biggest issue is the automatic charging for leads without my consent. I often receive requests for services that I don’t even offer or that simply aren’t a good fit for my business. Despite that, I’m still charged for those leads, even if I decline the job immediately. In other words, I have to pay for clients I never intended to work with.
The cost of leads is simply too high. It’s very easy to lose over $100 in a single day without getting a single actual job. For a small business, these expenses are enormous and often impossible to recover.
It feels like the only people consistently making money from this platform are the developers. All the financial risk is placed on the service providers—you pay upfront regardless of whether you win the job or not.
I believe it would be much fairer if users could decide whether they want to purchase a specific lead instead of being charged automatically. That would make the platform much more transparent and fair for everyone.

Horrible
I spent over $400 on leads in the Los Angeles area and didn’t get a single real job.
This app makes money off contractors by sending the same lead to 3–5 pros and charging each of them. Even if the customer never replies, they often don’t refund the lead cost.
It feels like the system is designed to profit from contractors rather than help them get work.

Fake leads. No refunds.
I’m ready to pay for fair competition between but most of leads are not so on Thumbtack.
They are fake, empty, customers dont even responding, if responding then they cant see your profile prices but just asking for free estimates for your money. Even after customers decide to do it themselves and do not hire anyone, Thumbtack doesn’t refund for this. Disgusting behavior and apprentice of system abuse. Totally not recommend.

Payment issues and bugs
Whenever it’s time to pay off the balance owed to continue using the app, it sometimes glitches out saying there is no card on file when there clearly is, if there is money on that card it declines it, sometimes when selecting a different card it thinks your trying to use the other default card. I have to keep closing the app in order to fix these issues. Sometimes it doesn’t fix. You just get a message saying it’s their fault etc. just trynna pay and proceed on the app…

Got charged for direct leads without knowing
I got charged for over $100 for “direct leads” without knowing how it works. None of the leads I would have accepted. This is ridiculous.
Poor service and over saturated
The support and lead price has gone up extremely high, communicating with the customer directly Has changed, the leads are now saturated and the refund policies Are extremely unfair. Thumbtack was great and no longer has a value to to the small business owner we will think twice before using this service again after years of being part of the Thumbtack

I’m very disappointed with Thumbtack. You charge me for leads that turn out to be empty or not real opportunities. On top of that, I’ve been charged even when I marked myself as unavailable and closed my calendar. If I’m unavailable, I should not receive leads or be charged for them. This is unfair, and I’d like these charges to be reviewed and refunded.

I highly recommend Thumbtack if you are looking to start your business and grow a client base. Thumbtack is consistent, reliable, and an overall great platform for new businesses that are looking for an efficient way to scale.

New scam. Pretend you’re a customer. message a contractor for Work , thumbtack charges him money, text back and forth for a lil then don’t use him for work. Do this multiple times to your competition on different accounts. it’s basically what the tech is doing to me, I’m a welder repair service and the amount of no work but I get charged is crazy. Fkn Jew trash

Horrible app
As a small business owner, I’m disappointed with how Thumbtack has changed. There are too many contractors bidding at prices that simply aren’t sustainable, making it difficult for legitimate businesses to compete. The app also encourages customers to contact multiple pros, leaving many of us paying for leads that never respond or are only collecting quotes. Thumbtack needs to improve lead quality and create a fairer system that values professionalism—not just the lowest price. I would not recommend this app the customers are just trying to find the cheapest labor possible instead of quality of work.

Worst then Angie’s list they charge u even if the customer replies to only to one pro and you’re in that list you still get charged so you will lose more money than you make more money to platforms or jokes what a waste of money I will be disputing with my credit card

I spent over $120 on leads and 2 of the 3 leads I got had wrong numbers. I requested a refund and was denied. I stopped using their services and deleted the app. A month later I was charged another $90+ and they won’t refund me. HORRIBLE APP! DON’T USE!
Company is going downhill
You used to get the lead and you would get the customer’s actual phone number and be able to talk them to them directly. Now your calls are recorded with AI and summarize and you have no control over your clientele. Gross.
