Slide Control Only

Being able to choose frequencies with a keyboard would be much more user-friendly than a slider. In cases where small adjustments in frequency are required, and the exact frequency is not known beforehand, '+' and '-' buttons would come in handy.

Update: The developer instructed me to upgrade the app, which happened automatically when I opened it. When the app is opened, a frequency is displayed on what is actually a field for entering a frequency number, but which looks like a button-shaped display. Not the most intuitive choice. I would have gone with something that spelled that out, say, "Enter frequency.".

Response from developer

Upgrade to the latest version and then tap the frequency number (ex: 500 Hz) to use keyboard for input. You can do this for Volume too. Cheers

Ruined

The last update ruined the ability to control the volume of the tone.

Awesome…

You totally ruined what you introduced to us. Hurrrrdurrrrr cool app yo

Um no.

limited listening ability

I love this app for the ability to choose the exact Hz frequency you want. I hate, & will be deleting the app after this, bc I want the frequency to remain playing in the background when I’m using other apps, such as watching a YouTube video. I want the frequency playing quietly in the background of whatever other audio I’m listening to.

FAQ

What does the Tone Generator app do?

This app generates pure sine wave audio tones at frequencies ranging from 20Hz to 22,000Hz. It's designed for various applications like tuning instruments, conducting hearing tests, performing science experiments, and testing audio equipment.

What are the main uses for this tone generator?

Key uses include performing hearing tests to determine the lowest and highest frequencies you can hear, tuning musical instruments like guitars to specific frequencies (e.g., 440 Hz for Low E), conducting science experiments such as finding the resonant frequency of a wine glass, and testing audio systems like subwoofers.

How do I control the audio frequency and volume?

You can adjust the audio frequency by dragging a slider or tapping the plus/minus buttons. The device's volume can be controlled using an on-screen volume slider. Audio playback can be toggled on and off with a Play/Pause button.

Is this app compatible with AirPlay devices?

Yes, the app allows you to specify playing audio to any AirPlay supported device. This extends its utility for testing audio setups or for listening to generated tones on external speakers.
