So quick and easy I use this app all the time

App broken

I love Trainline but this recent update is aggravating. Apart from the fact that it seems to be able to remember a date, a time and a rail card but not all three at once. There is this annoying pop up age selector every time you just want to look up a train. Forgive me but people of any age can travel on a train so the first thing is help find the train and THEN get the details for buying a ticket. No need to block the UI with incessant pop ups (for every passenger). Hope this reverts back to the great App it was once these niggles are resolved.

What even are these updates

Guys, the fact that you keep insisting on people selecting their age.. every. single. time they try to buy a ticket. What were your product managers and UX designers thinking?! If I wanna tell you, I tell you. If I wanna have a railcard, don't disrupt a flow at the worst possible time. Promoting upgrades when people try to complete a time sensitive action is at best wishful thinking, at worst just opportunistic. Don't even get me started on the auto-selected option to look for accommodation with Booking.com on the desktop version.

Changes

The new changes to the app are useless. I need to track live trains for my business, and the app just keeps trying to get me to buy a ticket.

Cambridge South missing for flexi tix

Cambridge South is there for buying regular & season tickets but was missing from the station list last time we bought a flexi.

Service charge now added

I’ve used Trainline for years. Just seen they’ve snuck on an extra 59p per booking. Last time I’ll use them. Uber aren’t as greedy.

train times

I have missed so many trains because of this ridiculous system. If the train is going to leave 2 minutes earlier then SAY THAT. How are we expected to know that the train is going to leave early. Fix this

Missing QR code that delay train boarding

I bought train ticket from city A to C via B in Spain. By the time of boarding, I found out that the app does not have boarding tickets for the first train (A->B). The email confirmation also only attached the ticket for (B—>C).

Figuring this hiccup out with the train station staff resulted in me missing the train. I would suggest to triple check the tickets the day before your trip to make sure all the QR codes are in place.

Response from developer

Hi there, I'd recommend reaching out to our Customer Service team about this. You can find their contact details here > bit.ly/4m0ZNK7 Thanks, Lorcan

Unreliable! Can’t activate my train tickets

The app used to be so handy for me in easily booking and managing my tickets.

In the past months or so, the app has started having serious reliability issues in activating tickets. Whenever I click on “Activate tickets”, the app never reliably does. I have to keep on trying and even closing and opening the app again doesn’t work. In one instance, my ticket even got deactivated right before a ticket inspection and I couldn’t activate my ticket due to the aforementioned problem!

I’ll be switching to another app where I have no such problems

You can end up paying an awful lot for the “convenience”

Does the app work… sure.

You do have to be incredibly careful though. I find it sometimes changes my destination so that my ticket journey is suddenly one stop short of where I wanted to go. Thankfully the conductors have always been fine about this but it does cause me unnecessary anxiety.

It’s also very easy to book a single by accident when what you want is a return or open return. Since a return ticket is usually cheaper than two singles this is a nuisance.

Another annoying issue is that discounts available at train offices or on board aren’t flagged by the app.

So in short an app that can make life a little easier will frequently end up costing significantly more. I’m sure regular users get used to this but casual rail users are probably better sticking with ticket office or tickets direct from rail staff.

Bang Average At Best

For sometime now the activate ticket function hasn’t worked despite several updates. The developers are too busy filling the app with pop-ups and adverts to bother with the core purpose.

A scam. Left me stranded at train station

Failed to issue ticket took my money and now refusing to issue refund.

Easy to use

Great customer service when I needed to change ticket

Disgusted

Delayed trains every day. Can’t count the amount of times I’ve been stuck for an hour because the times don’t bounce off each other. Makes me look less professional for the mistake of the service

Update made things worse

When I search for a train I only get one time per page? Why change it and make it worse, now the apps useless.

Failed journey

Damn app failed today so I’ve now had to cancel a trip - not impressed!

Poor feature

There is a feature where the “single”, “return”, and “open return” selection defaults back to single when you return back to the main page. This many times has resulted in me having to buy two singles either way, instead of a return or open return. I’d strongly recommend fixing this so that it saves the previously selected option, which I actually think it used to do. It just feels a bit scammy to me. Otherwise the UI is pretty intuitive.
