They won’t remove horrible sitters that harm your pets

I had the worst experience with a sitter and when I listed the many issues I had including bringing a dog without telling me for sitting our cats they refused to remove the sitter from their platform. We had major damage to our home as well. I would avoid this service at all costs

App authentication

Having to wait for an email code to authenticate log in to the app is a pain, and ruins the user experience. Email with code can take up to 2 minutes

Misleading No Value

I downloaded and paid the yearly subscription to connect with house sitters. App will show you sitters in your area but many are no longer doing it or active. I cannot think of a product or service I have ever paid for that was more of a waste of money than this app. So much so they should be removed from the App Store.

Beware of investment$$

I joined so that I could be a pet sitter abroad because I travel abroad four times a year. Every time I applied to sit, they were looking for someone with more experience. You can’t get much more experience than a person who bred Dobermans and boxers. I also helped train dogs for my mother. I bought the membership it for a specific purpose, and I could only find people in my local area. I have a home I don’t need to staycation. So if you’re doing this to travel abroad, it will take you a long time of watching local people to try and break into someone accepting you abroad. And of course, you only have 14 days to figure this out then they will not return any of your money even if sat one time. beware of Auto renewal default.

CONCEPT GREAT

I love the concept of the platform. Ability to connect pet sitters and owners is brilliant.
My quibble is with the app and ability to filter listings for searches.
How about being able to add number of dogs? Sitting for 1 or 2 dogs is a vastly different experience than 5-6 dogs.
How about a way to add private notes on a listing? How about a way to exclude a listing on subsequent searches?

App needs a couple of user experience feedback sessions. You’re almost there but the devil is in the details.

Payments for sits

I have only just realised that sitters also have to pay for each sit, which, on top of fees, does not seem very reasonable. I guess it may reduce the risk of cancellation but I think younger sitters are often somewhat strapped for cash…
I also think it would be useful to have an option to build in flexibility when putting in the dates eg I have had to advertise for two weeks separately when I would have been happy to get someone arriving and leaving a few days early….

14 day rating limit

You need to make it possible to rate house sits after the 14 days period if someone specially requests it. It’s easy to forget to do the rating. It’s totally within your control to make that possible so for your staff to say it’s impossible on your end is silly.

Fine tune the App

Overall the program and online web site work very well. Five stars.
What is letting the App down is the interface with issues like navigating between screens and functions. Going back out of the map view a good example, difficulty in saving several searches and more.

Paid account required

Don’t bother. They want money just to have an account. Head over to Rover. They may take a percentage, but you don’t have to pay to book appointments and talk to people.

Money-Making Model at the Expense of Sitters

TrustedHousesitters presents itself as a pet-sitting exchange, but sitters often take on extensive responsibilities, pet care, cleaning, plants, mail, and more, while receiving no compensation or tips and now paying both membership and booking fees.

In my experience over 1½ years, customer support has been consistently disappointing. When issues arose with demanding or inappropriate pet parents, I was essentially left to resolve them myself. The platform’s frequent technical issues and limited support make this especially frustrating.

The business model increasingly feels focused on revenue rather than supporting the sitters who make the service possible. Compared with other platforms, THS has been far less responsive, accommodating, and sitter-focused.

Great way to travel

Update: HELP—In saved searches, ie., my search “Winter 2 weeks+,” I could start to scroll down the listings and immediately the map feature button would pop up below so I could look at where in the world those listings were rather than scroll through every single listing. Now the map button is nowhere to be found. I just updated the app too, to no avail😩 Help!!

I’ve been on THS 2 years now both as a sitter and as a pet owner. We have met so many wonderful people and pets, and traveled to some great places. Til now the app has been really fabulous- recently however its been acting a little glitchy, and I’ve had to use the web, which is more time consuming and different to use than what I’m used to. I hope the developers can figure out a way to make the needed security updates while still allowing users of slightly older phones to use the app(??) Thanks!

Map Search Gone

I’ve used this app and been a premium couple membership for over 2.5 years. The one function we liked best about this app was the map search feature. This has been removed in an update, please return. Thank you!

poor review system

As a sitter, my overall experience has been positive. I’ve booked three sits and am currently on my second, getting to enjoy the company of some lovely animals in beautiful locations. However, there are some aspects of the platform that have been disappointing, particularly the review process.

I wasn’t aware there was a 14-day window for leaving reviews, and I don’t recall receiving an email or in-app notification prompting me to leave one. I only found the review option by going looking for it. My first sit now shows on my profile as completed but without a review, which is frustrating as I’ve come across listings requiring 7+ or even 15+ reviews. Of course, I can’t know whether the owner intended to leave a review or simply chose not to, but we had positive conversations after the sit and, had I known about the deadline, I would have politely prompted her.

Instead, I assumed she would leave a review in her own time and didn’t want to bother her. I know there is an option to request a review in the app, but I think the platform should also proactively remind both parties when the review window is approaching. As a paying member, I think it’s reasonable to expect important processes that affect the value of my profile to be communicated clearly.

App for iPad

I love the app and the concept of it but it would be good to have it for iPad interface

The Best!

What an excellent service, for all involved!

Fees for everyone

After being purchased by a the soul suck of a private equity, of course the new course of action is run take a great community driven site and squeeze everyone for more money! Love that greed. Charge even the sitter, who already pays a membership, and provides their services for FREE, a fee for every confirmed sit. Say it’s all for a better experience. But continue with pointless updates that have absolutely no difference. Meanwhile there is no way to search for sits in chronological order, even find anyone by name, and the spot that actually says Home & Location can be left vague by owners so that sitters have to take up an application spot just to ask what neighborhood the sit is in. I get notifications about everything even though I saved only a few, so those often get lost in the 52 others one must sift through. On and on and on. Thanks for taking this great community and ruining it for corporate profits. That sit essentials, your only new user experience, is ridiculously useless and usually says talk with the owner. No kidding!

A great experience

I was skeptical at first, but now I’m all in. My first pet-sit was at an amazing house, with wonderful hosts and a delicious, scrumptious, cuddly golden retriever. I had such a good time and can’t wait for my next one. What an amazing way to travel the world!
