Annoying
As multiple others have mentioned the fact that a Canadian, a member of the Commonwealth, has to pay for this in USD is beyond irritating.
Also 3 of our passports have chips and after trying a dozen times each on 2 of them I could not get the chip to scan. On the 3rd the chip scanned almost immediately so it wasn’t something I was doing wrong.

Does not load
Does not load in China, presumably because of the Great Firewall, but also does not load on mobile data on US SIM card. Very disappointed.
Use the App vs. Computer
After reading the reviews, I tried applying for the ETA online. It was a mess. The app was quick and you’re able to apply for someone else as well. They must have made improvements because the app made the process easy.
Easier than people make it seem
The whole thing was extremely easy. Took me less than 5 minutes and was approved 2 minutes after submission. Highly recommend using this app if you can.

Worst app ever
Spent 3 hours taking face photo because it would not accept it or give any feedback as to how to fix/why it was not approved. Seems like a very sensitive photo algorithm. Also it doesn’t save your information and makes you redo whole form every time you restart app.
Shockingly low quality
The app requires a non-reflective photo. This is nearly impossible since the UK and US passports have a complex reflective anti-fraud layer. I tried mutilole times and never had a photo accepted.
The app is illogical: it claims it will automatically take a photo when it’s ready but then bars its own decision by saying the photo is just automatically took isn’t suitable. (Doesn’t say why or course)
It’s also completely unclear that I’m going to be able to in a position to apply for my Children (not UK citizens): it frames the whole flow as me (a UK citizen) applying for an ETA. Which obviously I don’t need.
I’m honestly shocked that the UK gov is shipping such a poorly tested product. Very disappointing

Easy and straightforward
Not sure why the rating is so low. It’s a pretty simple process and the instructions are clear. Took me maybe 5 minutes to do.
Camera function sucks
The camera function to photograph your passport automatically captures the photo and then says it was poorly taken and not allow you to submit it
Didn’t work
The app didn’t work for anyone in our party. Midway through our applications it just told us to do it online. This whole thing was such an annoying extra step.
Totally Easy
Follow the instructions to the letter. Make sure lighting is good. And, if you use a cover to protect your phone, don’t forget to remove it before you get started—or, you’ll have to anyhow, when it’ll need to read the chip from your ID.

What’s the deal with that? What’s the point of Commonwealth? Anyway the app itself worked fine for me.

Never seems to work
Every time I open this, it tells me that it’s down for maintenance. Redirecting you to the website doesn’t actually work from the app, but once you hit the website, it’ll actually let you fill out every single thing on the web version, making you feel like you’re getting somewhere! And then surprise! When you hit the final submit button, it gives you the same down for maintenance message that the app gives you.

This app is terrible. The Apple Store needs to properly vet apps on this online marketplace as there are several others which are scams. I have tried for two days and this app says it is being “maintained”. A total money grab scam by the British government.
