Apple WSDOT app is trash

We compared the data coming from the Apple app and the android version and the Apple app is largely delayed compared to the Android one. Don’t have faith in this apps data and timing or you will be sitting at a terminal waiting for the next ferry because you did.

Ugh

Give us back our location option. We can no longer refresh our location to get an idea of how traffic is. And the cities you give don’t help.

Broken?

App seems to be broken. Route updates are from 3W ago.

Not currently functional

Traffic status changes depending on zoom level

Time and again, traffic status is incorrectly shown as green when zoomed out but is correctly shown as red when zoomed in, making the app useless.

Ferry tickets not easy to find post purchase

Although it’s great to purchase ferry tickets via this app, it’s not easy to pull up your tickets post purchase. A purchased tickets/orders button seems like a no brainer to have for a logged in user.

Nothing but crashes

This app refuses to run on my iPhone16 Pro running iOS 18.5. Launch —> crash. Repeat

Crashes at launch

Uninstalled

no longer launches

Initially the app would not open on ios 18.5, I completely deleted the app and reinstalled. This seems to have resolved the issue and the app behaves normally.

Newest “update” instantly crashes

Pls update this app… I haven’t updated this app in a while, but noticed a friend had “bridges” to check while I didn’t, so I got the recent update.
Now it instantly crashes when trying to open it. I had ios 16.4.x, just updated to the newest ios, but same problem.

Helpful resource for Washington residents

Update: still using the app but getting a little annoyed at the spam texts that keep showing up. I have been using the Oregon 511 app more often and I’m considering deleting this WSDOT app.

Thanks for this app, from a Clark county resident, I wish that Oregon had a similar resource aside from its Tripcheck website.

Still wishing for a paid ad free option to free up a little bit of space at the bottom of the screen.

What’s wrong

Why is the app not working anymore?

Needs a lot of work

The UX is pretty pedestrian and UI is antiquated. The ferry interface is particularly disappointing. Wondering if ANY user research has been done on this at all. So much more capabilities are possible, but update after update are yielding more of the same. Relying on the ferry system is already tough. Wish at least this app could be more reliable and informative.

Needs updated features

App needs to be available for Apple CarPlay so it can be displayed on vehicle screens. More useful especially in winter for pass travel.

Missing departure times

Does show all the departure times, cannot be relied upon. Deleting the app.

Doesn’t Work At All

Ever since an update or two ago the app doesn’t even work. You click to open it and it immediately closes. It’s unusable

Love… but

Please let me zoom in on pics. The traffic cam pics are SO SMALL. let me zoom in!

Doesn’t load on my iPhone

Downloaded, have latest iOS. Click icon, fails to open. Dead app

Ferry alerts need to be more specific

I signed up for Bainbridge ferry alerts, so I know when a morning commute will have problems due to vessel maintenance or crew shortages. Getting delay alerts on routes I have no interest in have encouraged me to turn off my push alerts. I would rather get less useful information than be burdened by false alerts.

App about as useful as the ferry system in 2024

Positives: the information is there.

Negatives: with the frequent breakdowns, off-schedule sailings, and wait lines for cars the app is barely useful.

The main page for each ferry should incorporate the live data, alerts, and actual/predicted sailing times. There’s a bar that fills showing drive up spots for the next ferry, but there should be one for the cars in line behind those spots. Add a feature that estimates the next sailing that will have space available. You have cameras, you know how many cars fit in each boat, that should be enough info to show that.

“Next sailing predicted 5:15 (4:45 scheduled), 0 spots available, cars in line will fill the 6:15 (running behind, expected at 6:30) ferry, next available ferry with available car spots will be 7:15 (late, expected 7:45)” or something like that.
