I use it to set my default search to my local instance of SearXNG… works like a champ!
Works as intended!
After following the instructions, it works just as I hoped! All my searches now go to StartPage. My only disappointment is that it doesn’t seem to work in private tabs despite enabling it to work in private mode. But perhaps I am missing something. I can settle for DDG at least in that scenario!

Better than others
I've tried a few other extensions for using a custom search engine in Safari and I find this one works the best. It seems to load the custom engine directly rather than having the default engine load then redirecting.

Broken on iOS18. Was working fine before, now it only works if choosing Google in safari settings.
Shouldn’t need full access for all websites
it’s supposed to replace the default search engine, so it should only need the permission for reading Google.com (and maybe the others) and not all the website.
Please fix that and it will be 5 stars.

Stopped working
Used to work every time, now it loads ddg for most of my searches as that’s the Safari default. Was good while it lasted.
Literally Did not work at all
I downloaded, opened the app, followed the prompts, allowed the extension, selected Brave as my search engine and NOTHING HAPPENED lol even restarted my phone and still nothing

You need to grand history permission, and set “All Websites” to “Allow”.

Ingenious! Exactly what I have been looking for so long and finally I can switch back to Safarai as my default browser.

Brave Search enfin sur Safari
Je cherchais depuis longtemps comment faire pour mettre par défaut Brave Search sur Safari sans trouver solution car il n'existe pas de plugin comme avec Qwant. Ce n'est plus un souci avec xEngine !
Pour que ça fonctionne, il faut que Safari soit paramétré comme navigateur par défaut et avec Google en moteur de recherche. Il faut bien penser à activer l'extension xEngine également et le tour est joué. Un grand merci au dev !

Safaris default search engines is not good enough. This app allows you to use any default search engine of your choosing and it works seamlessly!
I would also recommend considering this developers other app xSearch for Safari, which has the same feature as this app and way more!
