Review

This is a good guitar app. The only problem that they really have is that there’s no Metallica riffs, not a single one. They need to add Metallica.

The best!

I am 45 and finally learning how to play the guitar, something I’ve always wanted to do. I tried a lot of other apps but as soon as I tried Yousician, I immediately knew that THIS is the app for me! Whoever designed this app is brilliant and clearly they are a music teacher! I recently graduated Level 1 and am now working through level 2.

This program teaches the mechanical foundation in a way that is fun and intuitive. Immediately as a beginner you will be making nice sounds on the guitar! Learning through songs is brilliant and the courses give you tangible goals and satisfaction when you achieve them.

I’ve been at this for 5 weeks and I look back to when I first bought my guitar and the progress I’ve made is amazing. There are lessons that are very challenging, but using the practice feature allows you to isolate mechanics, build the motor skill and then apply it.

Unlike every other app that I sampled, Yousician starts building the necessary motor skills and mechanics that you will need to learn FIRST before anything else. Again, brilliant app!!!

Okay but obnoxious

The software is capable, but the style of the lessons is quite dreadful, and the customer service is terrible. But the software does get the job done if you can deal with that. But then see the thing about customer service. And terrible lyrics and overall condescending user experience.

Suspicious trial period

I recently gave Yousician a try and the app could be an enjoyable way to learn but please be careful with the free trial. I created my account through apple and began the trial in the app (gave me no choice). I decided a few days in that I didn’t like the guitar tutorials but I might try singing on a lower tier subscription. When I went to cancel, the app didn’t show up in my subscriptions despite all help guides suggesting that’s where it should be. So I deleted my account through their website, was told I wouldn’t be charged, and I also removed access through Apple ID. I was still charged. I’m not even sure how they have my credit card? I never provided it to them and the charge did not come from Apple.

Infuriating

Imagine learning songs from a book and then someone stealing your books or burning them and there was no other copy so the songs you’ve spent hours learning are lost forever.
Thats what happens with this app - 90% of the back catalog of good songs just disappeared overnight.
Replaced with a bizarre mix of super niche music nobody has ever heard of.
Maybe if you didn’t annoy the music industry by trying to circumvent licensing agreements with AI slop they wouldnt pull their licensing agreements.
Absolutely fuming and zero public information from Yousician to let us know how the issue will be rectified.
