Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: SVD at free against Footpatrol's free with in-app purchases. SVD also leads on rating (4.4 vs 4.2) and update cadence (every 10 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
SVD holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.2. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 480 and 221 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 22% of Footpatrol's written reviews are positive against 19% of SVD's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Footpatrol ships an update every 3 weeks, SVD every 10 days. Both last shipped on November 2, 2026.
