This is the official DhammaOrg iOS mobile App for Vipassana Meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin. Vipassana Meditation Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. It was taught in India more than 2500 years ago as a universal remedy for universal ills, an Art of Living. Vipassana is the process of self-purification by self-observation. One begins by observing the natural breath to concentrate the mind. Then, with a sharpened awareness, one proceeds to observe the changing nature of body and mind and experiences the universal truths of impermanence, suffering and egolessness. This truth-realization by direct experience results in mental purification. Courses The technique of Vipassana Meditation is taught at 10-day residential courses during which participants learn the basics of the method, and practice sufficiently to experience its beneficial results. There are no charges for the courses - not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the opportunity to also benefit. Locations Courses are given in numerous Meditation Centers and at Non-Center course locations. Each location has its own schedule of courses. In most cases, an application for admission to these courses can be completed online using this App. There are numerous Centers currently in operation and more in development around the world, including Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Most people don't give in on a bad day. They give in at the same hour, most weeks. Hard Bit works out which hour is yours, and warns you fifteen minutes before it arrives. WHEN IT HITS One button, on the first screen. Then, in order: a breathing circle, the sentence you wrote on day one, the list of what this has already cost you, and one question with no wrong answer. About twenty minutes. That is roughly how long a craving takes to rise, peak and pass, whether you act on it or not. THE COUNTER NEVER GOES BACK TO ZERO Log a slip and the number holds. Day 84 becomes "81 of 84 days clear". Three bad nights are recorded as three bad nights, not as a reason to start again from one. This is deliberate. An app you hide things from cannot learn anything, and the forecast only works if you tell it the truth. STOP, OR CUT DOWN Both, equally. Stop completely, or set your own weekly line and keep to it. Cutting down counts use-free days, so a planned drink doesn't wipe anything out. WHATEVER YOURS IS Drinking, smoking, vaping, weed, betting, porn, scrolling, gaming — or something you name yourself. Track more than one at a time. Each keeps its own counter, its own hard hour and its own reason for stopping, and the writing changes to match. Choose gaming and it asks about hours, not money. NOBODY ELSE SEES ANY OF IT No account. No feed. No community. Nothing leaves your phone unless you export it, and the export is a plain file you keep. HARD BIT PLUS A subscription adds the forecast and the message that arrives before your hard hour, the patterns and calendar, widgets, and the short reads. Yearly with a 7-day free trial, or monthly. The forecast needs your own history before it means anything, and it says so rather than guessing at you: under five entries it makes no prediction at all, and it only leans fully on your data at twenty. WHAT STAYS FREE The counter, the button you press when it hits, your own sentence, logging, the journal, milestones and the help links keep working whether you subscribe or not. Nothing you might reach for at 9pm sits behind a payment. WHAT IT WON'T DO It won't congratulate you for being good. It won't shame you for a bad night. It won't sell you a streak. It tells you what your own record says, and lets you decide. Hard Bit is not medical advice or treatment. If you are in danger, the app links to help where you are. SUBSCRIPTION DETAILS Hard Bit Plus — Yearly, with a 7-day free trial Hard Bit Plus — Monthly Prices are shown in your local currency inside the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically unless it is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the end of that period. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription. Manage or cancel in Settings.
