Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Northwestern Mutual at 4.8 against NCB Consumer's 4.3. Northwestern Mutual also leads on ratings volume (12K vs 72) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 weeks). NCB Consumer's advantage is review sentiment (82% vs 48%) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Northwestern Mutual holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Northwestern Mutual has 12K ratings behind it against 72, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 48% of Northwestern Mutual's written reviews are positive against 82% of NCB Consumer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Northwestern Mutual ships an update fortnightly, NCB Consumer every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 28, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
