Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Bartesian at none against Tovala's shown. Bartesian also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and rating (5.0 vs 4.8). Tovala's advantage is ratings volume (12K vs 1.2K) and update cadence (every 11 days vs every 4 weeks). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Bartesian holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tovala has 12K ratings behind it against 1.2K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 44% of Tovala's written reviews are positive against 42% of Bartesian's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Tovala ships an update every 11 days, Bartesian every 4 weeks. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
