Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Sidekick HR at 5.0 against BaseUp's 2.0. BaseUp's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months) and review sentiment (21% vs 8%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Sidekick HR holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: BaseUp has 9 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 21% of BaseUp's written reviews are positive against 8% of Sidekick HR's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
BaseUp ships an update fortnightly, Sidekick HR every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 19, 2026.
