The Epic Authenticator app provides two-factor authentication for your Epic electronic health record system. Two-factor authentication makes your Epic credentials more secure by requiring another step to verify that it's you when you log in. Periodically when logging into Epic you'll receive a notification on your phone. Tap the notification to indicate that it's you and finish logging in. In case you miss the notification, you can also log in by typing in a temporary passcode displayed in the Epic Authenticator app. Your organization must set up Epic two-factor authentication before you can use the app, and you'll need to enroll your Epic Authenticator device in Epic. To get started, refer to the directions provided by your organization, or contact your organization's help desk.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Fetch Resident at 4.5 against Epic Authenticator's 2.5. Fetch Resident also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 16 months) and ratings volume (22K vs 39). Epic Authenticator's advantage is review sentiment (27% vs 8%) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Fetch Resident holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 2.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Fetch Resident has 22K ratings behind it against 39, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 27% of Epic Authenticator's written reviews are positive against 8% of Fetch Resident's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Epic Authenticator ships an update every 16 months, Fetch Resident fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and November 2, 2026 respectively.
