Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: geteduroam at 4.1 against UK ETA's 3.2. geteduroam also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and device support (4 vs 1). UK ETA's advantage is ratings volume (1.6K vs 8) and review sentiment (45% vs 29%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
geteduroam holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: UK ETA has 1.6K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 29% of geteduroam's written reviews are positive against 45% of UK ETA's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
