Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: MarcMap at 4.7 against SmarTrip's 2.5. MarcMap also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 5 months) and review sentiment (29% vs 11%). SmarTrip's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
