Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Image Beauty at 4.9 against Wella's 2.8. Image Beauty also leads on review sentiment (50% vs 24%) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Wella's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 4 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Image Beauty holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 2.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Image Beauty has 612 ratings behind it against 49, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 24% of Wella's written reviews are positive against 50% of Image Beauty's.
Wella ships an update fortnightly, Image Beauty every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
