Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: Run 5K at free with in-app purchases against Interval Timer's subscription. Run 5K also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 67%) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Interval Timer's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (3.5K vs 1). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Interval Timer sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Run 5K sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Run 5K holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Interval Timer has 3.5K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 67% of Interval Timer's written reviews are positive against 100% of Run 5K's.
