Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: Workout Timer at free with in-app purchases against Interval Timer's subscription. Workout Timer also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (weekly vs every 4 weeks). Interval Timer's advantage is ratings volume (3.5K vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Interval Timer sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Workout Timer sells 5 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Workout Timer holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Interval Timer has 3.5K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Interval Timer ships an update every 4 weeks, Workout Timer weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and September 19, 2026 respectively.
