Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: Umi at free with in-app purchases against Language Learning's subscription. Umi also leads on review sentiment (53% vs 25%). Language Learning's advantage is ratings volume (16K vs 2.8K) and chart position (#56 vs #177). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Umi sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month and Language Learning sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Umi holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Language Learning has 16K ratings behind it against 2.8K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 53% of Umi's written reviews are positive against 25% of Language Learning's.
Umi ships an update every 10 days, Language Learning every 6 days. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
