Migraine Diary Plus
Read full descriptionHide full description
Most migraine diaries ask you to remember what the weather was doing. This one measures it. Log an attack and Migraine Diary records, at that exact moment and from your own position, the barometric pressure and how far it has moved, the geomagnetic storm level, the solar wind, the high-energy proton flux, and how likely the northern lights are where you are standing. You do not have to do anything to make that happen. WHAT YOU LOG • Start and end time, pain 0-10, headache type, where it hurts and what it feels like • Aura symptoms and how long they lasted • Nausea, and sensitivity to light, sound and smell • 22 suspected triggers, including work and stress • Stress and workload, sleep hours and quality, caffeine, alcohol, water, cycle day • Medication taken and whether it helped • How much it stopped you, and notes in your own words WHAT IT RECORDS FOR YOU • Pressure now, its change over 3, 6 and 24 hours, and the 24-hour peak-to-trough range. The movement is what the research points at, not the number. • Temperature, feels-like, humidity, dew point, wind, gusts, rainfall • Cloud cover, UV index, daylight hours, PM2.5, PM10, air quality, pollen • Kp index now, its 24-hour peak and the forecast ahead • Solar wind speed, density and magnetic field • Proton flux at 1, 10 and 100 MeV, with a radiation-storm flag • Your local aurora probability, overhead and in the poleward sky LOCAL AURORA, NOT A GLOBAL NUMBER Most aurora apps show you the Kp index, which tells you nothing about where you are. This one downloads NOAA's worldwide OVATION grid and asks two questions about your actual position: the chance directly overhead, and the best chance in the band of sky toward the pole. The second is the one that matters, because aurora sits 100-300 km up and can be seen from a long way south of the oval. It also works out where the sun is, so it can tell you the sky is too bright rather than sending you outside at four in the afternoon in June. BUILT TO BE EXPORTED A spreadsheet for you, raw JSON for a clinic that wants it, and a readable summary that goes into the body of an email so your doctor can read it without opening an attachment. Entries are numbered, so "entry 7" means the same attack in every format. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. No sign-in. No server. No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party code of any kind. Your diary is stored on your iPhone and is never uploaded. The only thing that leaves the phone automatically is your location rounded to about a kilometre, sent to a weather service to fetch the forecast, with nothing attached that says who you are. Refuse location and the app still works - you lose the local weather and local aurora figure, nothing else. FREE FOR 30 DAYS Everything is free to try for 30 days. After that, a single payment of £3.99 unlocks logging new attacks for good - not a subscription, and never charged again. Everything you have already logged stays readable, editable and exportable whether you pay or not. Your diary is your medical record and is never held back over a payment. WHAT IT WILL NOT DO It will not tell you what causes your migraines. Showing you that most of your attacks happened on low-Kp days would look like a finding and would almost certainly be wrong, because low-Kp days are simply far more common. Answering that question honestly needs the conditions on the days you were fine as well, and a future version will add them. Until then the app shows you what it recorded and refuses to pretend it is a cause. Not a medical device. It records what you tell it and what public weather and space-weather services report. It does not diagnose anything and is not a substitute for talking to a doctor.
