Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Forest at 4.7 against DialAFlight's 1.0. Forest also leads on update cadence (every 8 days vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (830 vs 1). DialAFlight's advantage is review sentiment (47% vs 12%) and monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Forest holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Forest has 830 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 47% of DialAFlight's written reviews are positive against 12% of Forest's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
DialAFlight ships an update every 3 months, Forest every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
