Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Canon Camera Connect at 4.8 against Shutter+ Sony Camera Remote's 4.3. Canon Camera Connect also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ratings volume (140K vs 1K). Shutter+ Sony Camera Remote's advantage is review sentiment (55% vs 20%) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). On price, ads, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Shutter+ Sony Camera Remote sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.49 per month. Canon Camera Connect asks for nothing beyond the download.
Canon Camera Connect holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Canon Camera Connect has 140K ratings behind it against 1K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 20% of Canon Camera Connect's written reviews are positive against 55% of Shutter+ Sony Camera Remote's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Canon Camera Connect ships an update every 2 months, Shutter+ Sony Camera Remote fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and September 30, 2026 respectively.
