Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Renfe Cercanias at 4.5 against EMTicket's 2.1. Renfe Cercanias also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (566 vs 15). EMTicket's advantage is review sentiment (31% vs 11%) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Renfe Cercanias holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 2.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Renfe Cercanias has 566 ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 11% of Renfe Cercanias's written reviews are positive against 31% of EMTicket's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Renfe Cercanias ships an update monthly, EMTicket every 5 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
