  • Great concept but terrible app

The concept of the game is great. I love it! But the app is just terrible. I have to close the app and reopen it to update games in progress and be able to play. It would better if each game consisted of more than one round and you were able to view the results of completed games. I would not recommend this app as it currently is.

  • Keyboard is an issue

The in-app keyboard you must use is not very responsive, so it slows me down when I have to tap a letter twice to get it to show up. Disputes are also a problem. You can only backspace, not drop a cursor anywhere in tour text, and the done/cancel boundary for the keyboard blocks the bottom of the comment box, so I have to keep hitting done to see if there are typos, then backspace blindly to try to correct it.

Aside from that, the game is pretty fun, though in-game chat would be even better. I play my friends and we end up texting via SMS to discuss a game.

  • Great but annoying

Enjoy the game and getting the brain thinking, however a bit frustrating at times as points are awarded for wrong answers, losing points because it doesn’t recognise your answer plus many other things.
  • Fun, but too easy to cheat

The game itself is relatively fun, but there are too many ways players bypass the rules and get away with it. For example, when asked to give three answers for a band, one player gave both “Little Richards” and “Little Richards Band” and both answers got accepted as being individual answers rather than just one. Players can also just guess first names for many category answers and still get rewarded even if they don’t give a family name. It’s also not clear why/how the game decides who wins in a tie game, it just seems to pick a player at random. Overall, decent and fun, but needs more done on ensuring players can’t cheat the system.

  • Mixed feelings

I enjoy the game but find it frustrating. It’s very Americanised so UK answers are deemed incorrect. It randomly autocorrects answers, sometimes in your favour and other times causing an incorrect answer. If you have the same top score as another player it only chooses one winner, so even if you ‘win’ you don’t get the coins

  • Let down by being American-centric and prudish

A good game and a great database of answers are let down by questions only an American-resident could reasonably answer. Also, when you can’t submit Willy Wonka as a ‘fictional character’ just because it contains a ‘rude’ word you know it’s gone too far!
  • Ok but needs improving

I love playing Scattergories, keeps my mi d ticking over.
However I agree with some other reviews of this game, some of the points awarded or not awarded is very frustrating!
How does the game decides who wins if we have the same number of points at the end of the round?
When some of my answers are disputed there’s no reason why! None of my opponents answers are disputed.
Some answers that are given clearly do not make sense. How can adding “amazing” to acrobats be super rare? And how can French fries be considered a rare answer for fast food?
Keyboard is very clunky to use, doesn’t allow for dictation feature or have numbers. Takes time to type in the words
Some of my answers get auto corrected (sometime so that I get it wrong) or are blanked out.

Not a bad game but definitely needs improvement !

  • Ok but...

As others have said it’s very Americanised, and answers are shown as wrong when they are legitimate answers over here. Also, the censoring is really over the top. For instance, it asked for a spice or her starting with J, and I said ‘Jerk Seasoning’ and it was censored 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ So you get lots of incorrect answers just because they contain other words. Also, there are way too many adverts and after every advert the game crashes. Lastly, the keyboard is weird on the game which makes it very difficult to type, and you constantly misspell things or take a lot of time typing because of the layout of it - The game itself though is fun 😊 just has a few annoying things that ruin it.

    Developer Response

We're sorry you've experienced this issue with censoring. We've found an issue with the order answers are checked, this has resulted in the answers being checked when they shouldn't be. We are working on an update to resolve this now.
  • Buggy and laggy

Laggy gameplay, the keyboard isn’t as fast and intuitive as it ought to be so typing is slower - this impacts on gameplay as the game is time-based. Please improve this! The game also shuts down randomly on occasion. Love the game but developers, please improve the gameplay! Would also love to be able to choose 3 of my own friends in party mode instead of 3 random people.

  • Tough to play

I love the actual Scattergories game, but this is hard to play.
    1. The keyboard is so bad. I will hit the “a” for example 5 times before I get an “a”. It is also very sensitive. It takes so much of my time just because the keyboard is terrible.
    2. I get that I need to spell things correctly. But come on.... coming up with a word for “X” and not being able to spell it is going to happen. Maybe introduce a word suggestion similar to how the game (app version) Family Feud is done. As you start typing it gives you what you’re trying to say. For example. If I start typing “bed and break...” it’ll pop up with “bed and breakfast” correctly spelled and it allows me to tap it and move on.
    3. There are a few glitches with the point system. It’ll say someone else has won when they in fact a haven’t. Others have addressed it in similar reviews and y’all’s explanation was a point booster. I’ve known for a fact that a point booster wasn’t applied and it still happens.
Overall, it was fun for the few times I played. But, I will probably be deleting the app after only having it less than a week.
