Hard to use this app when there are ads preventing me from seeing the cameras we paid for
do you love being HARASSED BY ADS?
Then this app is for you.
If you choose no extras, they will harass you relentlessly w full screen 60 sec popup ads.
Even if you choose to pay for the ad free version, Yi then harasses you to UPGRADE to a more expensive level.
If you upgrade to the next level, then they tell you there's ANOTHER level if you want xyz functionality.
AND even though this is called yi HOME, they charge you PER camera.
The cameras are actually very nice, but the aggressive selling is annoying. I know they’re trying to make money, but their tactics are slimy.

Great App
Great makes me feel safe and secure
Failed to load video errors
Have had this product for over 5 years and over the past few weeks, I have been trying to go back and look at the cloud video and events on my paid subscriptions for cameras.
The failed to load video errors come up almost all of the time now, and the cloud recordings are incomplete.
I have 4 cameras on the paid subscription and they all experience multiple errors.
Updated the firmware and the issue got worse on 2 of them.
Better yet, when going to use the Yi Home support system, the AI gives me a “network error”…

Only rating 1 star because I can’t rate zero.
I’ve used Yi cameras for many years, but I’ll never use one again. Over the last year or so they’ve made unavoidable and unbearable ads in the app some quite intrusive. They come in on opening so if there’s a live event you have a notification for you have to wait till the ad is done. The only way to get rid would be to purchase the subscription. Take my advice and return your camera if you’re just setting up and buy another brand that doesn’t try to bully you into taking a subscription.

This app used to be so good. Too many ads now! Can’t even keep my house safe anymore

So you buy a camera and want to access it? Here’s some ads! Want to see notifications? Ads and paywalls. If you still can, just return the product, the app is no worth the camera’s price

Bought cams before ads
The cams are good and can record locally to sd...but after a few months this app updates and has more ads than a free toddler game. The ads have tricky moving x's, and dark pattern force you to them. It's terrible now to just change any one setting.
Ads!!! And useless
It used to be something you could actually use. Now too many ads as they want you to signup for their monthly recording service and constantly pummel you with popups and now ads that open in the browser and you can’t even view your cameras that are using the SD card. Ridiculous! Will have to look at a different company. Do not want a subscription where my personal videos are tracked on some server in China!

DO NOT BUY. THIS PRODUCT FAILED WHEN I ACTUALLY NEEDED IT.
I bought my YI Home cameras years ago, when they were sold as cameras that could work perfectly well without a cloud subscription. Cloud storage was OPTIONAL, and local SD-card recording was one of the reasons I bought them.
Over time, YI has progressively changed the app and made the free experience worse and worse, apparently to push existing customers toward paid subscriptions.
But what happened to me recently goes far beyond annoying advertising.
I was away from home when my alarm was triggered. I immediately opened the YI Home app because I needed to see what was happening inside my property.
**I COULD NOT PROPERLY VIEW MY OWN SECURITY CAMERA BECAUSE ADS KEPT POPPING UP.**
Think about that for a moment.
This is a SECURITY CAMERA. I had a possible security incident happening at my home, and instead of immediately showing me the camera I had already purchased, the app was interfering with my access with advertising and subscription prompts.
To make matters even worse, the SD-card/local recording functionality I previously used no longer works properly either.
These cameras were NOT sold to me under the understanding that I would eventually need to tolerate advertising or purchase a recurring subscription simply to use their basic functionality.
If YI had disclosed when I purchased these cameras that years later they could degrade the app, interfere with live viewing with ads, and reduce previously available local functionality, I would NEVER have purchased them.
In my view, Apple and Google should seriously investigate whether this type of post-sale degradation of connected hardware should be permitted in their app stores.
A security product that prevents you from quickly checking your property during an alarm event because it wants to show you advertising has completely failed at its primary purpose.
I am replacing every YI camera I own, one by one.

Used to be good, now it’s terrible
Want to use your cameras? You have to pay monthly. Want to store footage on the cameras you already bought and were forced to buy SIM cards for? Have to pay monthly. Want to open up the app because it’s an emergency and someone’s trying to break in? You can’t. You have sit through 3 minutes of ads everytime you open the app just to get to the cameras, and theirs no bypassing it. This app has gone from great a few years ago, to absolutely terrible and wouldn’t even recommend the person I hate most to use this app.

Worst camera - takes extreme effort and time to watch your alerts thro MANY ads
So good luck if you have a security alert, it’s gonna take you a good 1-2 minutes to even get to the alert to watch it.
This is the absolute worst camera I’ve ever owned in my entire life. The second you open up the camera you get an ad that will not be silent, even when your phone is on silent. A lot of times you can’t even get out of that ad and close it cause there’s no way to close that ad. You have to close out the app and start over and hope you don’t get that ad again. Then good luck closing that ad. Then you get ads before you were even allowed to get to the point where you can look at the alerts that you got. Then they put an ad on our top of your alerts list so you can’t see them and it’s hidden behind an ad that opens and closes. And if you even are slightly off on clicking the X it will open up an app in an App Store. And take you out of the app that you’re in so now you gotta go back in and start over on the ads. I purchased three of these and now I have wasted money sitting in my house and I’m very upset

Total ripoff !
These people are crooks! They auto renewed charging a ridiculous price and then when I contacted them via the AI, it made all kinds of promises with regard to reducing their price or refunding the charge! Then I get an email saying I was not double charged? That wasn’t the problem and now the AI doesn’t work stating network trouble for the last three days! Premium support my foot! Try zero support and no way to reach them! Do not buy these cheap products, there is zero support and they bombard you with ads!
