Light won’t work

When I tried to update my light is canceled for no reason and then would make my light not be able to work ever again

Constant issues with Wifi conection

The amount of time I had to reset it and the difficulties to get it finally connected to the Nanoleaf App or Apple Home won't qualify for more than one star.

The buggiest app on my iPhone

As of version 10.6.2 the app will randomly close sometimes after a few seconds after being opened.

The status of lights don’t sync with the state in Apple’s Home app e.g. if I turn lights on using the Home app and then go into the Nanoleaf app, the lights in the Nanoleaf app show as off, in fact sometimes when I turn lights on within the Nanoleaf app using scenes, the power ‘button’ stays as ‘off’, so even the Nanoleaf app doesn’t seem to know what it’s doing. If it was a person it would be being moved into a care home 😂😂.

Response from developer

Hi Mike, You might check that all lights are assigned to a room. Let us know if you need more help by reaching out to support@nanoleaf.me

Little issue

I have a Nanoleaf light bulb for my bedroom and what happened was I was on it and it kept saying there was and error with my internet so I fixed my internet but it was still acting up so now I’m like quite confused and upset because this happens quite often

Bombarded at first launch

Come on, don't throw every authorisation for Bluetooth, notifications etc at the user upon opening the app. Overwhelming and poor user experience.

Progressive disclosure is a much more user friendly experience.

Technology that doesn’t work right or remember settings

Nanoleaf firmware updates still has same issues. I have three Nanoleaf Matter lights. Even when WIFi is in same room, lights randomly work / don’t work, delayed in taking commands, and eventually don’t take commands after turning lights off/on daily after a month or weeks (again and again). Requires re-adding to Apple Home then Nanoleaf again! Not worth it. My off brand outside lights that are Bluetooth always work reliably even when I’m in my home (mesh / not Nanoleaf / off brand). My off brand outside Wi-Fi lights will work all of the time (Google Assistant). However, the Nanoleaf Matter lights are the most unreliable where one or two fail, delay or don’t take a command even in the same room (status is Thread if I wait and sometimes Wi-Fi) in the same room, then eventually doesn’t remember settings requiring resetup. It’s super annoying how unresponsive these lights are for the amount of money I spent on them (so giving it one star for untested technology and can not retain settings). I have plenty of border routers Apple TV (previous), Google Home 2nd Gen and Echo Dot (5th). Annoyingly the lights don’t appear to work with Alexa or share out to Alexa (tried various ways of paring with codes). Garbage right now. Maybe I’ll try next year if I remember.

This application has been and always will be a disaster.

I’ve been in Nanoleaf customer since the very beginning. If there’s one thing I can say this consistent between everything they do is that this application is a never ending disaster and disappointment. It’s still doesn’t have landscape mode. It only does portrait which is a pain in the backside. It’s easy enough to do from their side to make it work as a landscape and portrait app like everybody else does, but they just seem to not want to. Another major goof up is the fact that if it ever loses one of your devices, God help you ever getting it back into the app. You will stand on one leg, you will pray, you offer it sacrifices… anything to get it to take them and put them back in, but no.
So enjoy your new Nanoleaf until the first sign of trouble, and then you will swear you will never buy one again.

Disappointing Matter integration

The lights are great but finding the Matter enablement less than enjoyable. Schedules are disabled. Registration onto a Thread network is tormenting. Devices can’t be added to a Google home from the iOS app. And so on. Maybe it can be improved in future releases? Go dev team, you got this!

Superior interface

Nanoleaf’s app is a far superior interface to the first one I tried (Grid connect); it meshes with iOS much smoother and is a better overall experience.
I’d really like to see smart wi-fi sockets in their product range, though; I recently bought another brand and they just don’t work so well with iOS.

App decent but still fails firmware updates

This is the 3rd or 4th update to the app which apparently fixes the issues with firmware updates failing on Essentials bulbs yet still cannot update my bulbs regardless if switched on, off, colour chosen, brightness, phone right next to bulb, phone a few feet from bulb, etc. After each update it takes longer & longer for the bulbs to react to instructions sent to them so will need to fix this issue once & for all before they stop working completely!
