  • food database needs work

My biggest complaint with this app is the food database. The barcode scanning only works half the time. I frequently scan something and it can't find it, and then when I go to add it, it has a completely different barcode than what is on the package I just scanned. And when I do add an item, it's near impossible to find it again. There's no list showing foods I've contributed. And when I try searching for it again, I can't find it. And of course I can't scan the barcode again unless it read the barcode correctly. And I can't search by typing in a barcode. In the search isn’t that good. Everything is just listed in some random order it seems. The other problem is adding food. The only option for serving size is grams, which is fine since products list that, but if the serving size is a specific quantity (like 3 pieces for example), there's no way to note that or log the food based on quantity. Also they use grams as measurement for sodium even through the US nutrition labels use mg. So I now have to do math to convert that sodium number to grams.

  • Helping to understand calories, but wording needs work

Foodvisor is exceptionally easy to use, which allows users to take photos of foods and does a good job more or less of imputing foods into meals. However, if the weights are not accurate it can be challenging for a use that does not have a scale or is familiar with weighing out portions in grams or ounces. Personally I am able to use a scale but not always at home to make certain weights are accurate.
The problematic thing with this app is the Daily Assessment. This will rate foods eaten in a day and one of my days hummus was considered a “bad food”. I have issues with this for several reasons but the first being that no food should be labeled good or bad. Some foods do no provide nutrients, and they are eaten for joy. Others are eaten to provide fuel. I do not have a history of disordered eating but individuals that do would have a very difficult time using this app and it is not sensitive to certain terms.
I do not find this app helpful as it also asks users to weigh themselves daily. Not my idea of living with a goal obsessed number in mind.

  • Great support tool for your transformation

I’m a 53yo man who has “let go” of the reigns for the past 10 years allowing myself to gain to 280, feel miserable about myself and the way I look and become increasingly medically unhealthy. I made a decision not to go on a diet but rather to redefine my relationship with food. I chose this app reluctantly at the suggestion of a friend but quickly found it to be very educational as well as supportive both of my successes and my lack thereof while still making suggestions and plans to help me get back on track. I am now 6 weeks into my lifestyle shift and am down 23 lbs, feel so much better and more energetic, have already greatly reduced 2 medical areas of concern to a level that my risk is 25% less and feel better in my clothes and the mirror. Highly recommend. You still have to do the work but this app will definitely provide you great advise and it doesn’t take tons of time out of your day.

  • Pretty good - needs some work though

I like the courses and lay out of the app but have some recommendations for better overall experience.

    - there is a lack of consistency when it comes to food items ratings in the journal, sometimes the same item shows in the list when you search and one is red, one is orange or one is blue and one is green for the same food

    - recipes: there used to be a way to search/sort/filter and I don’t see that anymore. Also, a lot of the recipes are way higher calorie or carb, etc. then what my plan suggests for me. It’d be great to sort by recipes that would actually fit within my plan. Plus, there seem to be a lot of red recipes, which is odd.

    - there are so many typos or missing words or weird formatting through the classes and articles

    - I wish the program/classes were personalized more towards me. On certain topics, it just stays so surface level but when it prepares you for the class, you think you’re going to get much more.

    - I’m heading into last group of classes and it’s only day 23. I’m hoping there is continued support after this set is done.

    - the nutritionist aspect is nice, but she also doesn’t give the most advice or ask any good questions to even help you figure out what you might ask her or need more help with

  • Buggy

I used this app several years ago and enjoyed it for the most part. I downloaded it again tonight and tried to clear years old information and things like weight would delete until you refreshed the page and it would pop up again. I deleted my account, went through the whole process of setting it up again to find out my information was not deleted at all and the account reverted back to all the data I had previously which is a huge problem for me. At one point I did commit to the free trial and the app didn’t update and was asking me to purchase the app. I closed the app and reopened and it only then reflected my purchase but I had realized my old data was still there. Just felt too buggy to be potentially paying $30++ a month or whatever it is. If they can fix these issues I’d maybe come back though.

  • Please read, I promise you will like. :)

A lot of people are complaining that this app is fat phobic, I am here to defend this app as a normal member in society. Being fat is not something to be loved or hated, but something people should be cautious of. If you’re fat you will have health problems. To all those who say, “Don't judge a fat person.” This app is meant for diets/helping people with food. If you feel like you’re being judged than you’re just upset with facts of your poor eating habits. Y’all promote fat because y’all are lazy, y’all don’t want to put in that work. How do y’all think people feel when they work real hard to get skinny and y’all make fun of them and say they need to eat more. In the most honest and truthful way, y’all need calm down. This app is a massive help. Stop complaining about your self issues.

  • App was broken - got charged for the free trial

I went to cancel my subscription at the end of my free trial period, but could not actually click “manage my account”. The button took me to a blank white screen. I reached out to a “nutritionist” too, about my account issues, but received nothing. Lo and behold I was charged and customer service is refusing a refund. Overall the app was really not helpful for me either, just the idea that I need to play through the little modules daily. Not for me, and I feel scammed. *** update *** They replied about how their app was broken and they said it was “FAIR” that I got charged $90. I tried to use the app since I was stuck with it and there’s no actual dietician and all of the “information” they have is basic. Their thing to search for calories barely works. Beware of these people. They’re probably making a significant amount of their money by making it hard to cancel. 🙃

  • Bad customer service

I got the free trial and was not reminded by the app when the free trial was close to ending. I know this is not necessary but a lot of apps do remind you before charging you $90! When I saw that I had been charged the $90 I tried to use the “contact us” button in the app and it would not work at all. At a loss, I then messaged the Instagram account with no response. Finally the next day I figured out another way to contact customer service (emailing back through my receipt, which most companies do not allow so I didn’t check that way earlier) only to be denied a refund (TWICE!). I have now been charged $90 for an app that I don’t want to use.
If you are just trying out for the free trial I would not recommend it. Especially not if you’re looking for a company that will have your back. I explained my situation to customer service and they did not care at all

  • Unrealistic, no option to gain weight

First of all, this app assumes everyone wants to lose weight, which is really annoying and fatphobic. I lost 20% of my body weight in 5 months last year due to illness, which messed up my metabolism and has made me extremely fatigued. I’m trying to gain the weight back so I will finally start to feel better. The last thing I want is to lose more weight.

Second of all, this app is completely unrealistic. I picked “gain muscle” as my goal because it was the closest thing to gain weight, but now my recommended protein intake is 3x the recommended daily value for someone my size. Also, consuming that amount of protein especially while staying within the calorie recommendation is extremely difficult if not impossible.

Finally, there is no option to add a product + nutrition information if the product that comes up when you scan the barcode is incorrect, which is very annoying. After my free trial ends I will not be using this app anymore.
