  • Thank you, this is incredible.

First, just thank you for bringing this app and this method to iOs. I feel like this exercises my basic musical muscles and enhances all of my musical experiences.

I am amazed each time I use this. I start out making lots of mistakes and getting frustrated and feeling hopeless but gradually my mind sort of ‘gets it’ and it gets easier and easier until it seems almost trivial to pick the correct note.

    Truly amazing.

  • Excellent, but needs a level before Random

The method this app uses is phenomenal, and the app is a phenomenal implementation of that method.

It is missing only one thing: There should be an ability to create custom “random” levels cycling through the user’s choice of keys, instead of being forced to go from a single key to all of them at once in random mode.

This is critically important because the transition from a single key to random is by far the most difficult. If the user could create custom “random” modes cycling through, say, 3 keys instead of all twelve and use that to work their way up, it would be far less frustrating.

  • Seems weird and useless but stick with it!!

I have been using this app for about a week and it’s starting to work for me. If you’re struggling and don’t get the point of it, try using it right before you go to sleep. That’s when I made my first breakthrough.

My only suggestion is to add a section to train the middle four notes. I really struggled with the switch from resolving to 1 vs resolving to 8 (and I still miss note 5 more than half the time). I think if you added a training session for notes 3-6, that would help.

  • Great App but could Improve

This is the best ear trainer available on iOS by far. However, the only reason I have given it 4 out of 5 stars and not 5 out of 5 is because it lacks the key note recognition feature (in which the same note is played against different chords/cadences and the listener has to deduce the key/modulation) available on the computer version.

If the developer could rectify this I would be most grateful

EDIT: the developer has recently updated the app and whilst I enjoy the new features, it still lacks the key note recognition feature which is a shame as this app is incomplete without it.

  • Would give it one thousand stars

For a free app this is simply amazing, thank you.

As said above, the magic is a little hidden, but once you realise you can test 2 or three notes at once, you realise how far you can go with this.
  • Amazing app!

This app is extremely useful for functional ear training and, after using it for a few months now, I can say I’ve had some real improvement in my ability to hear scale tones.

    A couple cool suggestions:
    - it would be cool if the app was able to challenge you with more than one note at a time (once you had gotten to a certain level)
    - it would be cool if the app had an exercise where it held the same note (e.g. C) but the chords underneath changed and you had to identify what function the note being played holds in relation to the chord (e.g if it was an F# major chord, C would be the sharp 11).

    Overall, an incredibly amazing resource!

  • By far the best!

I had used other ear training apps for several months but I was so frustrated. I just never got better at identifying intervals. I concluded that there are some things that some people just can’t do. Just like a blind person can’t distinguish colors, I could not identify intervals.

Then I tried this app for a couple of weeks. It took just a little while to get the hang of it but what a difference it has made. As a test, I went back to my other apps to see if I might do better now.

Unbelievable. Before, I might score 40%. Now I consistently score 90% or better. That’s a startling improvement. I’m a believer

  • Best ear trainer I have used

This is a terrific app. I have just been using it a week or so but the improvement in my ability to name the note numbers is already improving. I am also sing the root and the question note to train my voice to hit random notes better. I love that I can exclude easy notes like the root from the set.

  • I’m amending my review

I reviewed this app very shortly after trying it. At that time, I found it frustrating and unhelpful - and that’s what I stated in my original review. However, for some reason, I kept using it. After a couple weeks, I am starting to hear the resolutions. I find myself singing up or down from a note to find its resolution. I’m also beginning to hear some of the resolutions immediately. I am, therefore, amending this review. Seems like there’s something to this, and it’s something good. 😊

  • Works well good ear trainer

At first I was sceptical because it seemed to just be testing one thing. But if you enable advanced mode you can also test consecutive intervals and harmonic intervals with many notes at once. It also encourages use of moveable do (if you enable that function). My only criticism is that most apps like this including this one are really ear testers rather than trainers. This one comes close to a trainer by showing the relationship to the tonic after you say your answer but there are better ways to practise aural skills by actually singing the intervals/scale degrees/solfa before doing the test. If the app could show you some of those exercises too that would make it killer
