  • Fabulous! Much better than anything else I've tried

I've been playing with music software for 35-40 years. "Functional Ear Training (FET)" for iOS, which I’ve been using off and on for over a year, is the best I've ever found, both for its intended “relative pitch” ear training and for the practice mode flexibility that lets me work on my own version of “perfect pitch” ear training. I’m also very impressed with the developer, with whom I’ve enjoyed quite a few email exchanges on these topics. Kudos!

  • Amazing app

I have done a LOT of ear training. I have studied Kodaly in depth and am a pretty good sight singer but I’ve always been horrible at hearing individual notes in a chord while improvising in the jazz idiom. I know changes and language and patterns and can get creative but I can only rarely respond exactly to a given note a piano player might play behind me, especially if it “outside.” Well, I’ve been using this app daily and already I’m noticing changes (pun intended) in my ability to hear what is going on more accurately. Simply a GREAT app that works.

  • I never leave reviews on apps

But I'm so happy with this one, I absolutely love it. So cool to see the progress when you put some time into it.
  • This app does its job well

I read music for 30 years; now I sing in a contemporary worship band. It has been difficult at times to adjust because I never have sheet music and my ear has always been undertrained. This app is changing that! Within 10 minutes of using it I was much better at recognizing intervals. The instructions are easy to follow and are written for everyone to understand regardless of level of music knowledge. Every time I use this app, my ear gets better! Thank you to the developer for recognizing the need for an app like this and creating it. It’s easy to use, the interface is handsome, and best of all: it works!

  • This is what I’ve been needing!

My pitch is good, but when put in situations where I’d need to improvise I always found it difficult. I’d watch amazing musicians that were so good to the point they knew exactly where the music was heading even without sometimes knowing the song. Their instincts and understanding song structure of a tune was something I always wanted to be able to do. I always wanted the ability to be put in a situation where I could just jump in even without knowing the song. I was always jealous of my friends that could do that. Well, I can’t afford a Berkeley education but I can designate 5 minutes a day to training my ear and so far.... I’m already seeing a difference in my ability to recognize pitches within any key given. High five!

  • Cured my tone deafness

For 16 years of classical and jazz music training, I told myself I was tone deaf. I’ve played from written music for years and understood theory, but couldn’t tell you flat from sharp. I’ve been playing with this app for about a year, I woke up this morning, and I blew myself away: the notes in the chord had a clear relationship to one another. I imagine this is what it’s like seeing for the first time.

Thank you. I want to cry.

  • Best app out there hands down!!

Only suggestion is PLEASE add two and three note simultaneous. Arnold does it good with his programs but pretty annoying and weird not to have it in app format vs cd. Especially since there is more customizable options with it. Also one more: it'd help having more instrument sounds to apply better in real life and recognizing it.

Edit: it does have the multiple note feature I'm an idiot sometimes lol

  • Great training ap

Im enjoying using this ap to improve my 'ear'. Well worth persisting to get results.
  • I love this app!!!

A lot of the other ear training apps are based on intervals or chord recognition. These are good skills to have, but when working with real music you don't always have a reference tone. Instead you have a chord progression. Thats where this app shines. It is a really simple app without anything fancy. It is also great how you can hear the answer as many times as you like. In some other apps it lets you hear the answer once and then moves on before you have had a chance to get the sound of the right answer in your head.
