  • Loved it until….

I have loved this app for months. Total game changer. Today I logged in to make this weeks menu and am disappointed to find some changes in the recent update that make the app so frustrating that I gave up. Once the number of meals is chosen, there is no longer a way to omit one or more of the meals (they can be swapped, but I want to remove one). In the old app this would have been ok since the shopping list indicated which recipe(s) each item is needed for. This feature is also gone. In addition, there is no way to “back up” and change the number of meals. I’m hoping to come back and change this review if these issues are fixed. For now, this app has lost the functionality and flexibility I appreciated.
  • New update 11/16

Update: they are fixing it. Not fully back to the same level of functionality yet but it’s improving. Once it’s all done, it will be better than before I think.

Old review: The app was excellent and exactly what I needed. However the new update deleted all my meals and significantly reduced the functionality. I can’t view recipes and addi my recipes to my weekly plan doesn’t work. It worked fine why did we change it? I’m disappointed cuz we use plate joy every day.
  • Great app, decent recipes

I got this app so that I could take meal planning off of my to-do list, and it’s really excellent for that purpose. I appreciate that I can choose multiple dietary restrictions instead of just one thing. The recipes aren’t very adventurous, but that’s ok. I am able to easily adjust spices and seasonings as needed in the recipes. My only complaint is that the password input is incompatible with apple’s saved passwords. This is really a very minor inconvenience, but it would be nice if it worked like all my other apps.
  • Love PlateJoy

I am enjoying my journey to a healthier lifestyle. With the PlateJoy tools it has been one of the most enjoyable experiences. The recipes are tailored for my health needs and they are so delicious too. I am able to adjust the difficulty or complexity of the recipes to my cooking skills also. I gain satisfaction from creating beautiful food and PlateJoy recipes are that great!!
Also the weekly coaching and videos are so inspirational. They have helped me to keep building on my goals.
  • I *should* be getting paid

I’m such a huge fan of this app and service. I work in the service industry and tell clients on a daily basis how great it is. I’ve lost 30lbs with the help of PlateJoy, I’ve learned how to eat a healthy vegan diet and cook interesting meals. In regards to meal delivery services, PlateJoy avoids pounds of plastic waste a week. I couldn’t be happier with it.
Okay that’s a white lie… I do wish they’d be a little more forthright with cook times, they’re frequently off by upward of a half hour on dinners/batch meals. I truly do not care though, it’s fine.
  • Best meal planner app by far!!

I've been searching for meal planner apps for a while. If you want simple, sleek, and user-friendly, pick this one.

It actually takes your dietary needs into account, too. My partner and I are flexitarian (mostly veggie with occasional meat) and I was happily surprised to see they have that option! Usually in apps like this you're either omnivore, vegetarian or vegan.

It's been a joy to use! Thank you guys!!
  • Tailored for a busy person

The selection of menus is superb, there are many choices given each type of plan you want to follow. They even give you the recipes for the fabulous meals and right down to the grocery list by where to find it in the store. There are instructions and webcasts periodically that cover many parts of your plan, some of them are be leading authors, dietitians and people who have been through this before. I have taken part of other weight loss where I have lost the gained back, the yo-yo deals. But PlateJoy has helped me to learn different things. I know weigh what I did in college (lost 40+ lbs.) and I’ve kept it off going on 2 years. It really isn’t a diet.
  • It is more than just a meal planner

I love this app and I’m very surprised it is not more popular. Not only does it reduce food waste but it has caused me to eat healthier, stick to a meal plan stress-free, and I’ve enjoyed trying new things. Some of the recipes I have been super hesitant with but there has not been a single miss. There’s some recipes I probably won’t make again but those are far and few. The majority of these recipes are incredible and I’m so glad I’ve expanded my culinary repertoire. I highly recommend this app and I would recommend actually going with the weekly suggested recipes – you will pleasantly surprised! My ONLY qualm is that some of the recipes (and subsequent shopping lists) are not in full or normal quantities so you’ll be shopping for 7 oz of spinach instead of the typical 5 or 16 oz boxes. I usually make do by using extra in a recipe or by using less.
  • Neve thought cooking could be so easy

PlateJoy is a FANTASTIC app/program! I have been using the program for 3 weeks and have loved every mean they’ve offered. It is simple and easy to use, it guides you through the setup of your virtual pantry You tell it how many meals you want for the week, then based on your personalization (likes/dislikes/time constraints, etc.) the app creates weekly meals for you. Then based on what you have in your pantry it creates your shopping list for you. You can even use a shopping delivery service like Instacart if you’d like. When you are ready to make the meal simple open the app and it gives you step by step of what to do. You an even sync it with your calendar. I love love love this app.
  • Overall Obsessed

So I love this app so much. It legit has saved my partner and I so much money and lowered our food waste considerably. We were always buying more than we can eat and this helped so much! Also with time and selection!

I have it a 4 instead of 5 because there are a few frustrating points.

    1. We do our shopping on Sunday, but we still have some meals to cook for Sunday lunch/dinner, but when we need to do our new menu it removes all the meals, you have to click share and get the link and open it in your browser.

    2. Sometimes the numbers and amounts don’t add up in how much we’re eating. Usually it’s way more than what makes sense for the amount of times we’re supposed to eat the meal. Sometimes the portions are way too much.

    3. There isn’t a lot of seasoning in the meals, which to me I love because I love cooking and it lets me add my own flavoring but I know some friends have stopped using it for this reason.

    4. The personalized servings don’t make sense and don’t add up to the servings for 2 people.

    5. Lastly I wished they offer you more substitutions because not every thing is in the market we go to. This is a nit pick, because they do this sometimes.

Overall I love this app and I tell everyone to try it!!
