Still trying it

The app is immersive. The lessons are easy to follow. I try to perfect each lesson and nail it with three stars before moving on. I’ve been at it for a week or so and I’m trying to decide if headphone augmented reality is how I want to learn guitar. What comes through the headphones is not what is actually being played on the guitar. I get that it’s working finger dexterity on the fretboard but it makes me feel like the app is attempting to trick me into thinking I’m doing something that I’m not. I realized yesterday I haven’t plugged my guitar into my amp for several days. Do I want to play an app or guitar? I know my basic open chords and the chord section throws me off because I want to go straight to the shape I know but the app builds it up slowly finger by finger. The app requires rigidly following this pattern which makes me overthink what’s going on. All that said, I’m going to stick with it to see how it goes.

Response from developer

Hi there! Thanks for reviewing! Since you already know the open chords you can actually skip that course and go straight for the course "Open chord changes". All courses are actually open so you can go to the course that suits you best. Good luck and let us know if you have more feedback or run into trouble. Best, Daniel

Please help

In basic skills I can only get to the 30th exercise then nothing else is there. But I can see half of a button that should be there. It says I have only done 15/40 songs in the course. And that I only have 84/258 stars but I have almost 3 stars in every level. If you could tell me if I have completed the course or find I fix that would be great. Besides that it is a good app, I will change my rating afterwards

Hi there! Thanks for writing. If you have completed the Basic Skills course and want to advance to the next then go back to the main menu and chose the next course called "Open Chords". I you want to play more songs in the Basic Skills course and get more stars you can go back to each level and play the songs you still havnt played. You can always reach us at hello@zoundio.com. Good luck! Daniel

Your chord and string bend recognition needs more work

I been using your app for awhile, at first I used the chord recognition issues as an opportunity to refine my finger placement to get all strings to ring out perfect. I’m beating my head against the wall as it can’t be done...acoustic or electric thru a clean amp makes zero difference, I tune using the built in tuner...it’s frustrating at the very least. So, cut my losses on your open chord progression process and started the lead guitarist1 and soloing, you have no direction on what to bend string to...semitone or whole? Tried various bends to try and dial in the correct bend, no luck, either says “bend not heard” or something like that or wrong note. I don’t know where your issues lie, at least Yousician has a way to try and calibrate the microphone. I won’t be renewing my subscription if it doesn’t improve, for the beginning student, the frustration is high enough without these glitches already

Hi there and thanks for feedback! Its a big jump to move from the chord courses to the lead guitarist. To get the most out of the lessons and tutorials we recommend you first go to Power Chords & Licks course before heading to the Lead Guitarist 1. Let me know if you have more feedback or need support. You can reach us at hello@zoundio.com. Best, Daniel

[Fixed]Poor note detection means no progress:-(

EDIT: updating to 4* to reflect fixes in updated app release and responsiveness of developers, both here and by direct contact. Thanks :-)

Nice app and was looking forward to using it, but poor note detection on high e string means I can’t progress.

Guitars are in tune both in and out of app, but single picked e string is always “note too low” or “note too high” seemingly at random within same song.

Have tried three guitars and two devices with multiple placements of mic. Am in house by myself so no background noise either.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. There is a new version of the app in App Store that solves this issue. Can you download and try that? Email us at hello@zoundio.com if this doest not solve the problem. Thanks! Best, Daniel

Looks good after software update

Edit: Sorted now, my iPad needed updating. Once that was done, the app worked fine. So far impressed with it!

The app sadly will not even open on my iPad Pro. When I try to open it, I get the rotating loading icon in the top right hand corner and after a few seconds the app simply shuts down. Very disappointing.

Hi there! Thanks for writing. Can you send us an email to hello@zoundio.com so we can start troubleshooting? In the meanwhile try to reinstall the app. Thanks! Daniel

Why this app is not famous?

First, some ”psychological factors”: first, I was skeptical about this because the app has a lot less reviews compared with other apps. For that reason my mind automatically thought that it would not be worth it to download it. Second, I downloaded anyway because I liked the rock and row vibe of the app. Other guitar learning apps have these childlike interface, which turns me off. Besides the psychological factors, I think it is the best guitar learning experience someone can get in an app. It is intuitive, immersive, they don't take your intelligence for granted making ridiculous basic lesson. I don't understand why it's not more popular, but I am happy that I found this. I am just not sure how much silence on the background I need to practice, or if the problem is my headphones (the wired one that cokes with the Iphone 8), but I am able to get good feedback only if I am in a completely silent place. Summarizing, thank you for this app and for bringing the experience of playing real things from lesson one.

Updated, now won’t work at all

After installing the required update, the app no longer works. Rebooted device, nothing.

Update: got a response from “Daniel”. His support solution is that I buy a newer device so I can use an app that was running perfectly just days ago!! Btw I have an iPad Air 2, so although it’s not a spring chicken, it’s hardly a dinosaur. Have had zero issues on it with any other app.

DO NOT use download this app until they have some real solutions to the problem.

App keeps closing the app Frets:2

5 stars because I like the concept and I want to support but I’m having issues with the app closing on me. It might be my phone but I want to make sure that it’s not just the app. It keeps closing on the intro lessons on Frets 2. Everything else works perfectly fine. So idk if it’s that specific lesson that my phone that can’t handle it. I have an iPhone 7

Fantastic app!

I never write reviews but have to say this app is absolutely sensational. I am a complete novice, having quit learning to play guitar years ago through frustration. Amped let’s you play at your own pace and actually makes you feel like you’re progressing every step of the way. I have taken advantage of the 3 months offer that was provided and will 100% pay for it once it’s completed if I continue the upwards trajectory I am currently having. Thanks guys, can’t wait to see what more you bring to this service.

Note detection not working

I am having the same issue as MrCr102. I can’t get past the first lesson because it constantly tells me “too low note” when playing the open e-string. Guitar has been tuned with the app and also with a separate tuner, so I know the note is correct.
I have emailed support and hope to be able to increase the number of stars in my review soon, because it looks like a good app and a fun way to learn.
EDIT: Updated review to give an extra star. Suggested fixes have not helped unfortunately, but the developer has been super quick and helpful with their responses. Hopefully the forthcoming update will resolve the issue and I can give this app the rating it deserves🤞
EDIT 2: Uninstalled and reinstalled the app again and it is now working like a charm. Really enjoying it and can’t tear myself away! Thanks to the dev for excellent support 👍👍

Hi there! Thanks for writing. If you restart the app this problem should be solved. If not then try to delete the app and reinstall. We are releasing a new version in the next few days with a fix for this. Best, Daniel
