Great idea. Lots of problems.

I like the setup of the app much better than similar game style guitar learning apps and the song selection and leveling are both great. This app is fun and I usually end up getting really pulled in once a begin a session.

There are a few technical issues that make the app really frustrating though, and I donโ€™t see myself continuing past the free trial unless they are addressed.

First off, there are major issues with note detection. Iโ€™ve used several different guitars and headsets and even played pretty loudly through an amp. Iโ€™m in a quiet room and it keeps missing notes. Iโ€™ve taken my headphones off and picked through individual strings.

The other major issue is lag when slowing down songs. Itโ€™s not just the first time. It happens on a redo even if I just played the song.

Finally, Iโ€™d like to see a bit more fine tuning with slowing down song sections and the ability to quickly choose certain sections without having to move the slider around and guess.

There is a lot of potential here and I really hope to see what future updates bring.

Hi there! And thanks for reaching out! For the 1st issue - there is a new version of the app in App Store that solves this issue. Can you download and try that? Email us at hello@zoundio.com if this doest not solve the problem. For the 2nd and 3rd we are working on this and will launch in the coming versions. Thanks again! Best, Daniel

(Dis)Chords

I am withdrawing an earlier 1 star review because I evidently did not understand how to use the app!
Having played on another app before I skipped to barre chords on Amped and did not take on board that you are expected to, for example, play normally unwanted and incorrect open strings eg EADGDbGb to play a partial Gb โ€œchordโ€ on the top 2 strings.
The resulting sound is horrible if you have your (real) amp audible even though you are wearing headphones. Turn your amp down so that you cannot hear your amp direct but loud enough that Amped can. Amped removes the โ€œbadโ€ notes and replaces them with a much more pleasant sound.
You are also expected to actually finger incorrect notes too, though eg EADGEbAb for Db.
Sorry, but I donโ€™t like this approach at all.

Hey There, we have made many updates to the app which we believe has greatly improved our app! We would love to hear about your recent experience with the Gibson app by reaching out to us at app.support@gibson.com. Best regards, Matthew

Perfect

I learned so much in the short time I played. Today (when I wrote this) was my second day of playing and I learned more then I ever thought! Iโ€™ve felt the improvement this whole time. If you are stared out on your instrument this app is perfect for you! I swear this app was the 5th one I tried out and that was my last! Itโ€™s perfect; No adds popping up, easy to learn and it makes it stress-free!

Nice, but I have to say...

This app is the 'better' version of Yousician and its AR system is revolutionary! But, however, the headphones cause a hUgE problem! I have a Beats Solo3 Wireless (wireless, obviously) and I couldn't use them, due to incompatibility with Bluetooth headsets. So, I had to use tRAsH earphones and it was well... trash. So, please Amped, change this problem. Thx!

Hey there! Thanks for writing! There is a new version of the app in App Store that supports Bluetooth. And let us know if you have any other thoughts or feedback. You can always reach us at hello@zoundio.com. Cheers! Daniel

Has Potential

Overall I find the song selection better than Yousician, but their note recognition isnโ€™t to par yet. I can play Yousician for hours with only a few moments where it misses a note Iโ€™ve played, but Amped is lucky to get 4 out of 5 at times. Iโ€™m still using it because regardless of what Amped thinks Iโ€™m playing, I know Iโ€™m playing correctly and the practice is fun. Improve your recognition, add more songs to library, and this is a great app.

Hey and thanks for reviewing! Users get a number of lessons for free each day. For unlimited access and also access to the famous songs a premium account is needed. However non-premium users can continue playing free songs each day for as long as they like. Good luck and rock on!

Not really a star since I really canโ€™t use this app.

I have MRI hearing aids which are connected to my iPhone XS Max. I would have to disconnect them in order to use headphones and reconnect them afterwards. Not hard to do, but an annoyance. Also, I would have to buy an adapter in order to use my headphones with my phone. We all know that Apple got rid of the headphone jack. Another extra expense in order to use the app. There are other good guitar apps out there to use. The developers need to look into these issues, especially if they want iOS users to use the app without extra cost.

Pretty significant technical problems

I really like your song selection and the interface is simple but elegant! That said, thereโ€™s pretty terrible lag whenever I slow down a song. Practicing even at 50% is almost impracticable. Practice at the slowest speed is basically impossible. The app also crashes not infrequently. Finally, for some reason, notes are not being picked up by my mic. I do have new headphones and theyโ€™re not terrible. I hope you address these issues soon. At the very least, I hope you make this app accessible on my Mac. If you fix these issues, you might even be a better app than Yousician. Good luck!

Hey Charlie! Thanks for reaching out! We're currently fixing the lag on the slow-down and hope to have this included in the next launch. Would you mind sending us an email with some more details regarding the notes that are not being picked up by your mic? That bug is new to us. What device are you on? You can send it to hello@zoundio.com Thanks again! Cheers, Daniel

The way you teach the G-Chord needs to change.

Why the H-E-Double hockey sticks do you teach the player to use their pinky on the G-chord? Do you know how near impossible that is to do without muting some strings? Why are you teaching such a hard way to play the G-chord when there is an easier way that doesnโ€™t require the pinky finger?

I was really enjoying the app(better than the competition in some aspects) until I ran across this lesson...I got so frustrated trying to learn the way the app wanted me to, that I went back to Yousician to learn the G-chord there instead, only to find that there is an easier version of the G-chord that Amped does not teach you... After trying that version I went back into amped to complete the lesson but it was very confusing to be told to use my pinky...I really wish Amped would change this, and because there is no way to contact the developer on their website I decided to use this form instead.

I highly recommend this app to those of you that are not the developers reading this, and just because I think their way of teaching the G-chord is frustrating and dumb doesnโ€™t mean I donโ€™t recommend this app still, I really enjoy it, for the most part.

Hey there, and thanks for reaching out! The reason we teach the G chord this way is that it makes it so much easier when you start changing between different chords, for example if you change between C and G or between Em and G. Other benefits of playing the G chord this way is that you can play the G7 open chord and Gsus4 without moving the ring and middle finger. It just becomes so much easier. So you can regard it as an investment for your future you. However, there is nothing wrong with the alternative way that you have learnt it, but you will notice some increased difficulties when starting to change between the chords. If you have any questions or more feedback you can always send us an email on hello@zoundio.com. Thanks! Daniel

Great application get and use it!

I am 7 weeks in and more than 350 lessons and I can feel the change. The option between classical, folk, country, rock and metal keeps it interesting. The practice features that allow you to slow down and practice a piece are excellent. I would love to be able to isolate and repeat trouble spots.

While I am an accomplished musician of many years it is really good to fine a way to practice with accompaniment. If you are looking for an Application that will change you and produce results get this app, get and use it. Trust me you will not be sorry.
