Not as good as it used to be…

1. I really dislike that you can’t turn off the sound on the app itself. Having the cheering go off in the middle of the night while my family is sleeping and I’m just trying to catch up on stuff like this is annoying. It makes it so that I can’t process receipts at night. Please turn it off or at least give us the choice! 2. It’s not intuitive which receipts should be scanned in as paper and which as digital. I get a paper receipt from my online order but that doesn’t seem to get processed properly. Reading other reviews I’m not the only one with this issue. And then the app has issues with recognizing which products qualify when it’s very obvious (e.g., there is actual text, not an image, on the receipt saying “Nature’s Valley” but it’s still getting rejected). 3. There is no reset password link when you try to log in on the website. Why??? That said, generally, when the receipts are accepted I have had good luck with it.

I love this app

I have been collecting box tops for over 20 years when we would have friendly competition in school and the winning class was awarded a pizza party… an absolute treasure of a memory. I continued to cut & save and bring to schools between my school years and having my own children. I was sad at first that it went digital bc of fear of change. (I actually read an article on box tops and the individuals who collect them. Apparently there’s a small percentage of us and the ones who do it, do it with all their ‘heart’ haha I think that’s is cool to be included in that small group) anyway, I now love that it’s digital and I see the instant collection update for our family and the schools total! I have my whole family scanning their receipts to helps schools. Proud to say our family alone collected more than 1/2 of the schools earnings last year over $50 yayyy!!

Impressed with customer service!

I’ve had this app for a few months now, and I have to say, I’ve been really impressed with the customer service! Twice now when I’ve uploaded receipts, I wasn’t initially credited for all the box tops I had bought. But when you send a receipt in, it asks if there are any missing Box Tops, so you just fill that out, letting them know what else should have been credited and they review it. I’ve been impressed that they always credit what was missing, but also give you extra credits for the “inconvenience”. I just thought that was nice and I appreciate that they go above and beyond like that! I wish I would have known about this app earlier. I don’t have kids and I never saved Box Tops in the past, but this is an easy way to help out local schools!

Not mobile friendly ???

I just downloaded the app and it’s really not functional. I tried to upload a digital Kroger receipt pdf via the form in the contact us lost as instructed. First of all, that’s a weird place to stash that way of submitting receipts. It should be on the homepage or under my account. Once I did find it, the box submission just kept spinning and never went through- I set my phone down for 10 minutes and it didn’t work still. I tried my other receipt. Same thing.

I tried to submit a “contact us” form about this issue, and the forms aren’t mobile friendly. The form box doesn’t completey fit on the screen, and I couldn’t scroll down far enough to get to the submit button. It just kept bouncing within what was already shown on the screen.

I decided to email the receipts. I don’t know if this will work or not. Suggestion- make the email address that we need to use either a link or something that can be copied by touching on my phone- trying to remember an email address after I go out of the app to go into my email account and then type it in correctly is frustrating.

For being a mobile app, it’s not mobile friendly. At this point, it’s not worth my effort to participate in the program- I can’t even figure out how to do it with a digital purchase.

Great app

The people who contribute to this program the most was my grandparents growing up, my parents and their parents are not app savvy to participate so your loosing a lot of contributions by making it app only. My parents hands shake too much to be able to participate as well. Previously, when you clipped them… you had a long window of time to get them to the school…but having a 14 day window is not enough for my parents to save their receipt so I can once a month scan them all in. Making that 14 day window 30 days or 60 days would be a huge help to claim more box tops from things we already buy.

Not sure a better solution. App is great just leaves a gap with the folks that have trouble taking a photo.

Also some family still does flip phones without internet so they can’t participate.

Time limit to scan receipt

I think you should give a longer time to scan a receipt. Sometimes, I forget (because I’m a very busy person) to scan my receipt, when I get home from the store. Then I don’t think about it, until I use the product. After all, when we were cutting them from the boxes/packages, we had a year or two, to turn them into the school. I think you should give everyone 30 days, at least to scan their receipts. After all, it’s all about helping our schools. Several times, I wouldn’t have my receipt excepted, because it had been longer than 7 days. Sometimes, it would be on day 8 or 9 since my purchase. Any longer time you could give for scanning receipts, would be most appreciated.
Thank you,

Disappointed in this app

I liked clipping and taping better. At least my kids got credit for their own box tops that way. Here in this app it’s just a free for all for each school. I see the star where you can credit people but that only works for in store receipts and not digital receipts. Digital receipts are a PITA because if you only do grocery pick up you can’t even USE the app — it just takes up space and all you really get out of it is a dashboard with your earnings. I’ve already had to contact customer service multiple times to get my Shipt/Walmart grocery box tops, and school barely started three weeks ago. Don’t get me wrong, their customer service is great, it’s just the app that feels like unnecessary bloatware that doesn’t really DO anything unless you go shop in person all the time and have paper receipts. I would like this app much better if there was a way to add screenshots of transactions directly within the app. Even more, I’d prefer that they just go back to clippable tops, so my kids could get credit for their boxtops. I even tried printing a curbside pick up email receipt (7 pages of ink and paper wasted) just to scan it so I could designate a class and it said “could not find a date”. So I ended up having to email.

Like it but could be improved

Overall I like the concept of the App and the ease of the app. I’m not sure why there is a “14” day time frame. Sometimes you have a receipt you forgot about and left in your purse or wallet for a couple weeks. One major improvement I’d like to see is scanning large paper sized (8.5x 11) papers. With COVID-19 we are using a lot to online ordering and door pick up for a warehouse like BJ’s or Costco. This gives us a large receipt that box tops A) isn’t always recognizing B) doesn’t pick up on redeemable items for points C) reads date incorrectly. I will continue to try using this app and hope for improvements with the school year starting. It says if we believe there are items on our receipt that weren’t recognized to bring to local school. That is sort of defeating the purpose of the ease of the app./ I just don’t have time to do both. 🤞🏼Hoping for improvements :o)

Box tops

The app works ok. It’s a pain to remember to scan receipts within the short window allowed, plus I really don’t like that the company has a list of ALL the items I purchased, not just the items with box tops. The change from physical box tops is really disappointing. My family used to clip all their box tops for my daughter to take to school, and she’d get a treat at school for collecting them. Now my daughter has no part in it. It’s just me scanning receipts. My family isn’t going to give me their receipts to scan, and they’re not going to install the app and scan their receipts because, well, that’s just weird to have to share all that info to get ten cents for the school. I also had a ton of box tops that family collected not knowing the program was ending. So those were just wasted. Really disappointing.

Digital Program Roll Out Needs Improvements

I liked the traditional clip system much better! There aren’t as many digital product offerings as there were before with the clip system. :(
The app and digital system is not user friendly which is why I stopped using it several years ago before the clip system was unfortunately discontinued.
I have had multiple issues scanning and entering items on the receipts. For example, if an item on a receipt isn’t recognized, you have to manually match it to available choices. Once you select the item, it is no longer available for selection again. If you bought more than one of the same item, what are you supposed to do??? This has happened to me so many times. It’s hard to get full credit for purchases.
The “NEW, DIGITAL” system is a pain to use now. Probably why not many people in our area are actually using it to support our schools anymore. I guess if your mission was to eventually phase the donations program out by discouraging people from using it; then BTFE is successfully achieving its goal.
