  • Greatly improved app

I had taken a look at this app a year or so ago and was disappointed with the filters and the price I paid for the full pack. I must now reverse that opinion and review. The developer has done an AMAZING job of revamping all the filters to a very high quality. As it is now Autumn in my area I resort to primarily B&W photography so re-downloaded Carbon. I’ve made some beautiful edits with it. One of the filters rendered a picture of some leaves in my area with terrific creamy tones. I got many likes on EyeEm for it. It is definitely an app you want in your editing arsenal. Keep up the great effort to keep this app top-notch!

  • GREAT PHOTO EDITING APP

I initially purchased this App for the great black and white filters but soon discovered there were also many other amazing filters and textures that I could utilise from in app purchase options. I’m really loving the ‘BOKEH’ effect I can add to my photos and can’t wait to have fun with this App over the Christmas season...highly recommended as I’m a very happy user of this App

  • Great but still room for improvement

B&W filters are awesome and worth the $ investment. Overall the app is really good but I want to share what I would like to see on future upgrades: 1) edit aspect ratio and crop options within other image editing options, for now you need to do it before you can edit the photo, 2) zoom in on the photo while editing, even with the iPhone plus size screen it can be hard to review the smaller details on the photo, 3) marks or numbers on the edition bar, there are no marks when you increase or lower brightness, contrast, etc. therefore harder to remember what was your previous mark, 4) save your filter edition so you can apply it on other photos for a faster workflow, 5) option to change the square canvas color as it is applied a grayish color border, wish it was white, 6) new 25mp output is a really nice addition but it still compresses the images, maybe in future we can see a lossless export option to keep the same image quality - current output is optimal for for online content though. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

  • A love and hate

So I must begin by admiring the filters. I am a professional photographer and rarely do images hit my phone without being rendered complete. But with this app I found myself exploring new options for my finished images as black and white photos. And I was impressed. And I’m glad to spend the money to purchase all the add-ons... but like all apps, when I test, I test for many things... including compression. This was most frustrating. I found that if I take a 14mb image, this app would compress it down to 450kb when saved. If I chose to save through direct airdrop, the image. Would still compress but would net out at 850kb. Either way, I would much rather be in control of the compression output, over the app dictating this. For how much I loved the filters, I would consider this app a total waste of time and money unless your goal is to share pixelated images to the world. So, I have a hard time giving a better rating until the compression issue is fixed. But I love the simplicity and filters of the app otherwise. I look forward to changing my review, this is can be a good app, but currently it is not even a consumer-friendly app in a modern high def world.

    Developer Response

We've added high resolution export! V9.1 supports exports up to 25 megapixels! Thanks a lot for your feedback! Users like you are the ones that help us figure out what we should work on next! So thanks a lot for that. We're going to add a lot more pro focused features in the next few weeks as well. If you have any suggestions let us know! We're committed to making this app the best that it can be.
  • An infuriating amount of pay walls

Just installed this app and attempted to trial it but I was met with an infuriating amount of paywalls and pop ups insisting that I buy packs and filters.
Just attempting to edit a single photo I had to close 3 pop up windows and another one for every time I clicked a filter that was apparently a premium one. (Which you can’t tell until you click it)

A classic example of a beautifully designed app completely ruined by the greed of trying to push up sells.

In the end, I didn’t end up editing anything and uninstalled it. All that time and effort building this app and you totally lost me before I even used it. I’m not going to buy your $15 filter pack when you spam me with “buy this” pop ups. Sorry.

  • Very smart looking app

The app is great. It is very sleek and easy to use. It really does class up certain photos when you turn them into black and white. This app just makes it simple to do so. Developer responded to email in short amount of time and answered questions I had. Really excellent.
  • Extremely polished advertisement

How this app managed to get featured I’ll never know, but be forewarned that it’s literally 4 black and white filters, and some frames. All the other features are behind paywalls, and the app nags you constantly to buy them. I mean, even if you happened to be okay with the meager free features as is, the app is pretty much unusable with the constant efforts to get you to buy more packs, filters, premium, etc, etc.

It’s possible the paid version of this app is great, but I’ll never try it.

  • Nothing my iPhone doesn't already do.

I was excited about this app for B&W photography...until I downloaded and tried it. There is nothing this app can produce that I haven't already done using the regular "edit" features on my iPhone. The ads are gorgeous, what I really downloaded was a beautiful and intrusive commercial instead of a photo editor. Why must there be two pages of the same ads to swipe away, instead of a preview before I buy? Those extras are corny anyway, and can be easily created on any other pic editor for free. Don't waste time, money, or space on your device bothering with this...portfolio.

  • Love it but....

I love this app, my favorite type of photography is B&W. This really increases workflow. I have a problem though after I add texture and click next, it rotates my photo from portrait to landscape. I cannot figure out how to keep this from happening. It squished the photo as it does this. Am I missing something? I use an iPhone 8.

  • Cripple ware

This crippleware takes up too much space on your mobile device, does little, and constantly begs you to buy in app purchases for filters and capabilities. Carbon takes the annoyances to a new level, not just by offering purchases but by interrupting your experience with the apps interface but by driving you to screens hard to back out of that urge you to buy. It acts like a really annoying used car salesman blocking the door until you buy something from him.
