Please fix it

Mostly great

I tried this app after finding the native Mail app too buggy (especially re searching) and I can’t stand how gmail clips your emails. This is mostly great but I have one consistent problem - sometimes the content in one email will just not load (but I can see it has actually loaded - bc if you forward the email the content appears, it just won’t appear when you click from the inbox). There seems to be no way to fix this; once the bug happens, even if I restart the app etc the email content will not load and the only way I can read it is by forwarding the email. Please fix bc otherwise this is a great app.

Don’t like this at all.

It’s okay but buggy

I’ve had a pretty good experience overall aside from the bugs with connectivity to gmail. Support was minimally helpful solving the root issue. With more polish this would be a great l mail app long term, but without it i’ll be considering other options after my subscription.

Could be brilliant

Been using canary for a while but some features recent updates have introduced some weird bugs that just make the app so frustrating to use. I switched to canary from my usual proprietary apple mail app on my iPhone and I can’t stand googles attempt at a mail app so this was a nice clean interface with the addition of the privacy options which are great. Sadly though, deleting and moving emails is really buggy and the app insists on being open while it takes upwards of 2-3 seconds to delete an email, and then insists it can’t delete them because of a VPN or network error. The synchronisation with mailboxes is also a bit janky.

No other issues with features but it’s just become frustrating to use - what I personally want and need from email apps is just a fast lightweight interface, that works, with robust privacy functions. Canary has come so close but it’s not quite there yet.

No personal criticism of the developers as I’m sure creating this kind of app is not easy and is fraught with complications so hats off to you. Hope this feedback helps to make improvements where necessary.

Glitchy and unreliable

I gave the free version a try for a long period to decide whether to pay for the Pro version. I liked it at first, but over time, the frustrations grew, from not seeing folders in my phone, to issues with the snooze feature, which worked unreliably. But the main problem is that the app is just sluggish, particularly when archiving email. I came close to upgrading to Pro early: glad I didn’t.

Great email client, poor calendar

I’ve been using Canary for years. It’s a 5/5 email client that competes with the best of them in functionality. However, suddenly they have imposed a poorly implemented calendar, that duplicates notifications with my actual calendar, and no clear method to deactivate the functionality. Why is it there at all?

Random Glitches

Can’t figure out what the deal is. I’ll get repetitive notifications on an email that I’ve already read. Seems like some glitches that need to be worked out.

Too bad we didn’t see any updates to fix - had to delete the app and look for something more stable.

App is alright, support is abysmal and led me to leave.

The app does what it does on the tin. It constantly tries to push the AI stuff in your face but I understand that they have to cater for all users!
As other reviews have mentioned throughout the years, where it falls short by a mile is their support team. I have had the displeasure of having to deal with them and they are slow and unhelpful. Hands up one of the worst support teams I’ve had to deal with. On average, I was getting replies from them every 6 days (checking spam daily just in case) and in the end I gave up and moved to a different email client. I don’t mind paying for a subscription, as long as it’s commensurate with the quality of the service. Based on the support I’ve received from Canary, this is not the case and the support team cost them the subscription of my team.

Lots of great stuff, but an inconsistent foundation

Giving a very hopeful three stars. Love the AI integration (especially with calendar events, but doesn’t work every time), read receipts, tracker blocking, secure sending, and even getting used to the inbox (sorting by buttons above message list), frequent updates with some fixes. Unfortunately as others mentioned, the basic email stuff is not solid and consistent. Notifications are sometimes duplicated, email refresh (I.e., seeing sent emails) is sometimes very slow (both iOS and MacOS) and often requires re-index or re-adding the account(!); if clicked on too quickly after downloading sometimes attachments won’t download and require re-index (!); I can't search all my emails (!!!); smart notifications sometimes allow newsletters, marketing emails and even emails marked as spam get notified (then trashed!); the “for you” button takes a while to recognize new emails (sometimes hours) and the UI is more cluttered than similar paid apps. This would be a decent paid app ala Airmail from 10 years ago but not for $50/yr and in 2024. PLEASE fix the basic stuff on all platforms and for all account types before adding more features! TL;DR: lo cool new stuff but the basic stuff is a little cluttered, slow and janky.
