Lots of great stuff, but an inconsistent foundation

Giving a very hopeful three stars. Love the AI integration (especially with calendar events), read receipts, tracker blocking, secure sending, and even getting used to the inbox (sorting by buttons above message list), frequent updates with some fixes. Unfortunately as others mentioned, the basic email stuff is not solid and consistent. Notifications are sometimes duplicated, email refresh (I.e., seeing sent emails) is sometimes very slow (both iOS and MacOS) and often requires re-index(!); if clicked on too quickly after downloading sometimes attachments won’t download and require re-index (!); picture and font rendering is small and sometimes hard to read/blurry; I can't search all my emails (!!!); smart notifications sometimes allow newsletters, marketing emails and even emails marked as spam through; the “for you” button takes a while to recognize new emails (sometimes hours) and the UI is more cluttered than similar paid apps. Please fix the basic stuff on all platforms before adding more features. TL;DR: lots of cool new stuff but the basic stuff is a little cluttered, slow and inconsistent with respect to search, and email processing.

New background refresh is a major battery drain

This was a great mail client right up till the last update. My phone could go all day with no issue. Now with background refresh i am lucky if i can make half a day. Even turning it off the app still consumes major battery. On average this app eats 45% f my battery in a given day based on the built in battery monitor in ios.

Really bad experience...

I tested the app for a few days before upgrading to the subscription. I subsequently discovered several problems, whether with the iOS, iPadOS or macos version. Poor synchronization between several devices, even when following the procedure described in the options. Emails disappearing without knowing why, problems to add Exchange accounts, poor text formatting options, AI function inefficient and poorly designed, completely useless, and so on... In short, really bad experience with CanaryMail. Had I known, I would not have signed up for the subscription. Waste of time and waste of money. Really deseapointed! Get back to Apple Mail.

Great start, Amazing potential!

Pluses: Really like AI drafting of emails (better at my writing style than others), AI sorting seems to work well too. Seemingly receptive developers and app still in active development. Read receipts are nice. Apple Watch notifications are much better than similar apps. Adding events from messages seems to work well.

Minuses: the rendering of some emails, especially on iOS can be hard if not impossible to read (particularly for a paid app); would like not to see all my emails when I boot the app (just the ones to me vs newsletters, mass company emails etc.); sorting and smart notifications especially mass emails from my company and others is lacking sometimes (ie, getting way more notifications than even outlook); ability to train the AI on my writing style, sorting, notifications, etc would be very useful.

Still “learning”

So far I’m still in the learning process and I’m still not sure if I keep Canary. For many years I have used Outside and I’m satisfied what I’m getting for free. Canary Pro Version cost $20 a year to be able to enjoy all features. Is it worth the change? I’m not sure yet. The free version doesn’t have any major advantages compared to Outlook for me. I continue to testing Canary for a few days more. It bothers me a bit that I’m bombardet with requests of reviews with an interface that is complicated to open and is not available in dark mode. To understand all the settings that are required are confusing and there are no explanations how these settings impact the performance of Canary. Overall so far marginally disappointing. Update: The download site said :Try it for 39 days free. Turned out that the trial expired after 24 hours. Not even the notification sound discontued to work. Deleted and went back to Outlook..

Nice features but needs improvement

Really like some of the features (snooze, unsubscribe)

Co-pilot is cool but not that smart especially in a email thread, and usually wastes more time than saves for emails that are not direct one on one

The main issue I have is lots of time to archive, send emails and download attachments. I keep have to reload the app to send an email. And some emails do not get sent if closed out too early. The pdf reader also doesn’t work well when the phone is flipped horizontal making reading attachments frustrating (long download and then tough to read)

Would be an awesome app if they fixed these issues

Great App - One annoying Bug.

App is great, blows the stock email app out the water and all other competitors I have tried. It’s fluid, clear, and just works. The built in features also make it super customisable and easy to use.

That being said, I have one horrible bug that keeps cropping up and what pushed me the write this review. Once everyday or so it refuses to load email. Can see who it’s from and the subject line but any contents will not load whatever you try. This obviously ruins a perfect app. This needs addressing and once it has been I will update this review to reflect that.
