  • Obsolete!? (Updated)

**Edited after clarification from the developer thank you. **

I’m very happy that our hardware is not obsolete and we can continue to use the new app. We absolutely love our devices and find them invaluable in our apartment in Europe where there is no mechanical air circulation.

Yesterday I would have given my units and hub 5 stars, but today the app notified me that the 2900 series app is obsolete and will not be updated. Luckily consumer law in the EU allows for 2 years, so, sadly my units are going back for reimbursement. In addition there are no upgraded consumer units on the market that I can find. I am evaluating other manufacturers.

Hi there! It's possible there might be some confusion we'd like to clarify - you can download and use the new Airthings app available on the App Store if you have other Airthings Wave products with the following serial numbers: Wave Mini (SN 2920), Wave Plus (SN 2930), and Wave Radon Gen 2 (SN 2950). The new Airthings app supports these Wave monitors, Airthings View monitors and Airthings Hub. It's only Wave Gen 1 users with serial numbers starting with 2900 that should continue to use the Wave Gen 1 app and it will still be available for these users. If you have a Hub in your setup, it's also unlikely you have a Wave Gen 1 monitor since they are not compatible with Airthings Hub devices. Please reach out to us at support@airthings.com and we'll be happy to help you further!

  • Unresponsive Support

Installed the Radon detector today. It seems to be working. The app communicates with the device. However I don’t see the device listed in my iPhone bluetooth device list as either connected or not connected. The app is able to send a command to the device and syncs without a problem. If I turn off iPhone bluetooth the app reports no bluetooth available. When I ask support why I don’t see the device listed I get a nonsensical response, eg try replacing batteries even though the batteries show full, the device is new, device is communicating with app. I think the company is relying on faulty AI even though they show a photo of a person on the email they send.

  • Accuracy in Question !!

I was primarily concerned about radon levels in my home so I bought the wave device to remedy my concerns. The wave app is quite basic and it seemed to have difficulty syncing with the wave device. One screen would say up to date and another would say last synced 1-2hrs ago. It definitely wasn’t up to date as the data graph itself didn’t show any new information. I think the app struggles with how to display information in a user friendly format. There are too many screens to view basic data and the graphs are quite small when trying to view hourly data information. When the 7 day device calibration was complete, I started to get the highest radon levels ever on the 8th day. Out of curiosity I put the device outside for several hours and the levels never changed. That’s when I knew the device was junk. I returned it immediately and got my money back. I should have read these app reviews first vs product reviews.

  • Waste of Money !!!

App is very basic and seemed to have problems with syncing to the wave device. The main screen of the app would say up to date with the syncing but when going to the screen with the more detailed data view it would say last synced either 1 or 2 hours ago. I couldn’t get it to sync even when hitting the in app sync button or quitting that app.

The data view itself was hard to read and access on such a small graph. The data should be the most important part of the app!

After letting the app sync for the required 7 days, is started getting high radon readings on the 8th day. The highest they had ever been. I didn’t trust it so I put the wave device outside for several hours and the levels didn’t go down but remained the same. That is when I knew the device was junk, so I immediately returned it and got my money back.

  • Bad App or bad hardware

There many reasons to not like the product. The first thing I noticed is that the mini wave will stop responding to Bluetooth even though I’m 3 feet from it. The Only fix I found was to pull the aa battery to force a reboot of it. That works for about a week. 2. Cost of hardware is mind blowing. 3. Hard to tell the last sync date as syncing always appears on the device overview. I have to set my phone down for 5mins and even then a scroll through the devices causes syncing to hide the last sync date . I would rather see the last sync time was xyz time ago versus trying to fake sync. Makes it easier to spot the glitching minis. 4. No notification saying device did not report in for 24+hr.

  • So far, so good

Was hesitant to purchase the Airthings View plus and mini sensor after reading many negative reviews of the app here… but I needed something and once Aprilaire promoted it I jumped in.

Purchased mainly for radon monitoring as I live in a high radon area and need to know if my mitigation system is effective but I’m also getting data on PM2.5 and VOCs which is a big bennie as I now know my indoor air quality needs some help.

I can’t attest to accuracy and longevity of equipment yet but out of the box everything worked as expected and app setup, connectivity and reliability has been flawless, so far.

I wonder if some of reviews here are based on reviewers actual air quality or the actual equipment and app but I can’t yet justify anything but a high rating and I have not seen anything yet better on the market in this relatively new and emerging technology 🤷‍♂️

  • Decent hardware, horrible app

The sensors used (in the Wave Plus, at least) are decent. They provide good capability for monitoring multiple metrics, which differentiates itself from other competitors. The app, however, still feels like a proof of concept.

For the money you’re paying for the sensors and the length of time the app has been released, it seems like Airthings really could not care less about the user experience.

For example: Why do none of the visualizations fit on the screen? Why is only the trend line shown with no detailed measurements? Why do we need to view things in the Web app just to see the data points? Why is there such a huge lag between measurement on the device and being able to see the data, even after it’s been force-synced?

None of these seem to be niche use cases considering the target market for this product. It makes me uneasy to think that the entire user-facing part of the product has been so woefully neglected, because otherwise these devices are just expensive paperweights.

  • Easy setup, no issues

Everything worked great out of the box, setup multiple sensors in less than 10 minutes. Only weird thing is deciding between the “Wave” or “Regular” app.
