  • Landscape Mode is standard for iPads

iPad users use their devices in both portrait mode and landscape mode, therefore it is a very basic standard to support both views for any app. Many people have their iPads on stands, in docs, connected to keyboards in landscape mode. It’s annoying to have to disconnect my iPad just for this one app, so I’m deleting it and sticking to the web version on my iPad and the iPhone app.

  • No landscape

Connectivity and setup were pretty easy. Button at the end of setup reads “add device” instead of “finish” which I feel would be less ambiguous. I let it sit to finish setup for about 20 mins before I realized that “add device” didn’t mean add another device.

Also, no landscape on iPhone or iPad. Phone I don’t care as much. I use my ipad as a laptop most of the time and landscape would be much appreciated.

  • Test for yourself and return if you don't like it. We are keeping both of ours.

I purchased my first device in October 2020 to start monitoring the room baby will sleep in come November. It's been tracking great ever since. Even after one move and a revised setup.

As others have stated, it does take time to calibrate the device in its designated location. I recommend placing the device in line with where you're likely going to be breathing the air the most: office = chair height, bedroom = bed height, etc... Expect 7 days for setup.

I haven't run into any connectivity issues either, as some have mentioned. Maybe the reviewers who are stating otherwise are in brick buildings on the east coast where the walls are thicker? We're in California and live in overpriced timber so no problems there aside from the nosebleed prices to pay in hopes of surviving the "big one."

Got another one for the master bedroom in the new pad. That one works great too. The things that should not change from same-level room to room (like air pressure) are aligned. Baby's room had new furniture after the move, you bet we saw a rise VOCs! And, a gradual drop over time as we kept monitoring and airing the room...

We monitonitor the air daily for nap times and being WFH in general. I highly recommend. We'll likely get a 3rd one for the office come peak of summer.

  • Satisfied with purchase

I’ve had my monitor for a few years and have been generally satisfied. A couple of times I’ve had connectivity issues but customer service has been responsive in helping me resolve the problems. All in all, a good product.
  • Super sketchy data collection and privacy terms

Not only does the Airthings Wave app want access to track your browsing history (which has nothing to do with the quality of the air in my home), but the data privacy terms state that Airthings (the company) isn’t liable if the data they collect is breached, even if it’s the fault of Airthings themselves. Find another air monitoring tool which doesn’t collect your browsing history and at least is willing to admit that they owe you something if they can’t protect the data they’re gathering from you.

  • Inaccurate readings, frustrating customer service

I have two Airthing Wave devices sitting side by side for over 4 months. They both give different radon readings, sometimes one Red, the other Green. I have been working with Joshwin in customer service for over 3 months. He routinely takes weeks to respond to me, and keeps deflecting by stating that I bought the devices at different times(why does that matter), or that I should read the customer service articles(which I did), or that my app is not updated(yes it is), or outright disputing the readings on my devices…I have sent him multiple screenshots of the readings on my devices. I make my decisions to use my basement gym based on my Airthing readings, and I haven’t gotten any satisfaction whatsoever from Joshwin. This is so incredibly frustrating, and disappointing for a company that seemed so cutting edge and technologically savvy. At this point I feel like I wasted hundreds and hundreds of dollars on the Airthing Wave devices, and ironically I would never have known that they are malfunctioning or not calibrated had I not purchased two of them and put them side by side. I do not recommend wasting your money on this device if there is no certainty that the radon readings are correct. And further, customer service is terrible.

  • Buggy and too constricting for setup

First, hardware required remote server to activate and remote server wasn’t working so couldn’t activate device.
And then on day 2, app kept crashing whenever tried to “change location” or “change room” under “settings”.

Each day seems to be another challenge.
I’m not so confident in the product and/or app and hope things will start to get better.

  • App could be more useable

I just got two airthings devices.

+ The setup through the app work quickly and easily.
    - The app itself doesn't let me get to the info I want easily enough. The "all devices" page is particularly bad. That's where I expected to go to glance at all my readings at once. Instead that page dedicates real estate to: a large amount of text that says "up to date" (could be accomplished without taking up half the pane), the model name (why is this important to show in top level UI?), and wether or not device is a "hub" (who needs a continuous reminder of this?). Please just show me the air quality levels there - that's what people buy this device to do.
    - The graphs are also a bit difficult to use. I can't tell at what time outlier readings happened.

Useful device - data it collects could be displayed much better.

  • Collects & Tracks Web Browsing History

App lists in the App Store that it tracks browsing history and links it to your identity even though such a function is completely unnecessary for its purpose. There appears to be no privacy settings to disable this and nothing in the App’s privacy policy state that this is occurring, why it is taking place, or what they are doing with the data.

  • Too invasive, returning products

I bought the View Plus. This app (and an Airthings account) is required to set up the device. I installed the app then read the App Privacy details. There is no reason an app for an air quality monitor needs my browsing history and there is no reason the app should be tracking me at all.

How about making an app that doesn’t store data in the cloud and instead lets me connect to the device on my LAN? How about respecting privacy and not turning a good device into a Trojan horse meant to collect data in your users?

I actually bought 2 View Plus units, one was to be a gift. I’m returning both, sorry about the ripped box on the one I opened but at least I didn’t pull the battery tab.
