Set it and Forget it

I set it up once and open it once a month to compare to my NTTA statement. Works as advertised as long as you have 2 or more people with the app installed in your car.

Battery killer

Since the app must run with location “always on” and “background app refresh,” the app kills my iPhone battery. Feels as if this drain started happening recently so perhaps you can fix with an app update.

I just have to remember to open the app each time I do ride in express lane. That’s a huge pain.

I didn’t have to do anything

I forgot I had this app installed until I got an update notice. Fortunately, I don’t have to do anything and I still get my discount on the TEXpress lanes. Thanks.

Convenient

App works great . Working 70 miles away and being able to carpool helps out a lot especially by just hitting a button on other riders phone

App constantly bugs me for Always On GPS location

I certainly would prefer to never have to even need an app for HOV toll discounts or pay these ridiculous tolls at all.

But the app does give me discounts. My only complaint is that it is always in your face about Always On GPS tracking. Seems unnecessary to need it on all the time and when I decline to constantly nag me to switch it to Always On. Annoying

Does the job, but at what cost?

This app does the job of providing the HOV rates when traveling on toll roads, but the required “always allow” location requirement is very concerning.

Where is my location data stored? How long is this information kept? Who has access to all of my location data? Is the data shared with any third parties?

I expect that the standard legalese would be the response to most of these questions.

This forces me to disable and enable location services for this app depending on my commute. Not the optimal situation, but it gets the job done. It will be up to each person to decide the value of saving money on their commutes. Other than the location information concerns, the app is easy to use and seems to work as expected.

Hi Algorami. Thank you for taking the time to submit an app review. If you prefer, you may choose to allow access to Location Services "While using the app" only. In this case, you'll need to remember to open the app prior to your departure, so that your travel through a TEXpress Lane can be verified. The benefit of granting permission for the app to always access location services is that it enables the app to automatically awaken when you travel in the TEXpress Lane, even when the app is closed. If you open the Privacy screen in the app, you can read more about how your location data is used to verify the HOV status of your vehicle. You can also see the exact location data that has been saved - all of which expires after 60 days. If you have any questions, you may chat with us directly in the app - just tap on the Contact Us option in the app menu.

GoCarma is a joke

The claim is that GoCarma will allow you to get HOV discounts. But that's a joke, because they make it next to impossible to get things set up, even for people such as myself who are quite tech-savvy. Heaven forbid my grandparents try to set it up.

The Occupant Passes are even more of a joke. Nowhere in the app is there even an option to set up the OP that I ordered and received for my child, as directed by the instructions that came with the device. This is completely absurd! Why would you deploy an utterly faulty product that your software doesn't even support? Why is your documentation not more straight forward?

It's like GoCarma is doing lip service claiming to provide discounts, but they do everything in their power to make it next to impossible to actually GET the discount.

Hi redfishperson. You can set up the Occupant Pass by simply tapping on the Menu and selecting "Occupant Passes". I understand from your conversation with our Support team that you were accidentally logged into another account which did not request the Occupant Pass. I trust that you were able to log in to the original account you created and to activate the Occupant Pass successfully. If not, please send us another message in the app and we'll be happy to help further.

TX DoT must fire this company

I noticed a few times the system didn’t recognize HOV status in my car even though GoCarma app was turned ON in both phones. We usually have a quick ride on 365 TEXpress to get on 75 about 7 mins as my wife and I carpool to work.

Now I guess this is how they try to make up for what they call “Cheat rate” LOL.

Their customer service is prompt but unhelpful and rude. The worst I’ve ever experienced.

Hi Thanh, Thank you for taking the time to submit an app review. I can see that our support team successfully identified and resolved the reason you didn't qualify for an HOV toll discount. Each person in the vehicle needs to be logged in with their own GoCarma account. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us in the app and we'll be happy to follow up.

Look forward to that day that this system folds

I wish this system would disappear. It’s so terrible in so many ways. But I’m sure too many people are making too much money on it due to its flaws (more tolls when the system isn’t working). Also, I’m sure politicians and business people are lining each others pockets to keep the system in place.
3 years layers, still having continuous trouble. What a joke.

Hi Hypherhonda - Please send us a message in the app and reference this review. If you have a setup issue, I am sure that we can quickly resolve it for you. The GoCarma app will enable you to qualify for a 50% discount in the TEXpress Lanes during peak periods. You’ll just need to make sure there are at least 2 GoCarma users in the vehicle.

DFW At It Again - Terrible Service

The fact that you now have to have a cellular device with Bluetooth to receive HOV discounts is absurd. The fact that you have to keep your location set to “always allow” is also concerning — EVEN if they aren’t using location data in a nefarious way. They want to say the change for this was because people were using HOV for non-eligible HOV rides. Well what about these “passenger” devices for children that remain in the car 24/7? I’m SURE parents aren’t removing this and are getting even MORE free HOV rides than before. How is this tracked and enforced?

Replying to the dev: have you ever considered that the “cheat rates” are so high because of YOU people charging for these services as a middle man? Comical. Of course you’re going to defend a toll road.

Hi thewolfman2010. You just need an app on your phone. There is no device that you have to leave in your car at all times. The app works automatically when you drive in a TEXpress Lane to confirm that your vehicle has at least 2 GoCarma users in it. An Occupant Pass is available to people who travel with children. This is a small Bluetooth device that should be carried on board only when traveling as HOV. Those who leave it in the vehicle receive in-app reminders, potentially leading to a suspensions of their GoCarma account. GoCarma ensures that only high-occupancy vehicles receive the HOV toll discount. This has the benefit of reducing the number of vehicles who try to cheat the system. In other parts of the country, HOV cheat rates are as high as 40%. By reducing the potential for people to claim HOV status while traveling alone, GoCarma preserves the integrity of the TEXpress Lanes and helps to keep TEXpress Lane prices lower for all road users.
