2 people in the car and still being charged!!
We have 2 people in the car with the app opened and status said “In the Car” on both. And when I check the history, we don’t get the discount and was being charged for toll!
It’s very frustrating because it’s a free HOV lane and now it’s charging us! I feel like being robbed by this app!
Update: I have contacted GoCarma app with screenshots of history tab and toll statement of the app sometimes work sometimes doesn’t. Sometimes I was charged and sometimes doesn’t. And it was ignored with no help at all!

Poorly-designed app
There are a lot of questions that the product team did not think through on this app. Let’s consider some of them...
1) why would I want to have the app AND have to order and carry a Bluetooth enabled reader in my car just to use the functionality?
2) in addition to that, why would I also want to order and store an occupant pass for the numerous times that I have children, clients, or friends in my car? Even if you exclude peak hours, the majority of users would be required to order this pass in order to reap the benefits.
3) For the occupant pass to work, the software has to store the data for both the pass and occupant pass for the same location at same time, marry them up and tie them to my account. For all that work, why not just have the user to self validate when they are in HOV mode or not using the app????? How simple would that be for me to open the app, select HOV mode, complete my trip, HOV mode ends, I get my discount, everyone is happy. How was this solution overlooked???

Terrible idea for HOV discounts. Privacy issues
Your privacy policy states that “The location of ALL users is tracked by GPS via a users smartphone and conveyed to Carma but only when a trip is in progress.”
This means in technical speak whenever your phone is within range of your beacon and nowhere near a toll road. Every trip you take can and will be sent to Carma according to their own policy. It’s not just on occasion like customer service states in other reviews. They also state they will share with “trusted partner organizations “. This is very vague. Nope not going to happen. App deleted and not worth the privacy risk to more and more companies having information of everywhere I go in my car. Such a horrible idea to make people use their phones to do this.
Clearly the canned response from Carma is in direct contradiction to their privacy policy. Where it states they do and will use GPS data every time you drive and can send that data to any trusted source. If this is Not the case then simply state that in your policy exactly what you are telling every user here.

I hate this app
This app only exists due to the toll road requiring its use. Thus it has a monopolistic hold over us and it uses that hold to put out an annoying product. One must have location tracking enabled 24/7. Why? It says to automatically give you discounts even without the app open. I’d rather have the option.
Plus, if you don’t need the app open to work than why, when you close the app, do you receive a notification that the app is closed and thus won’t work? Since I don’t want to let the app run in the background 24/7, I turned off notifications in settings; but now every time I open the app I am forced to click through an ominous warning about notifications being turned off.
I want desperately to delete this app. Which is possibly what the toll road hopes happens so they can make more money. Please put out a crappy app so we meet our regulatory obligation but make it really annoying so no one wants to use it. Well, if that was the goal you have achieved it.

So much easier!
The new GoCarma app is simple to set up. It took one minute to activate the Bluetooth thing for my glove box. I’m so relieved I don’t have to declare HOV status anymore! I just used the Invite A Friend feature to send the app link to my passenger. He added it while I was driving towards TEXpress lanes and now we’re both done. This is so much easier than the previous app!

Privacy is fine
After reading the other reviews I had some privacy concerns with this app. However, I don’t anymore. Their privacy policy was available on their website. I was also able to find information about how all of my phone permissions are actually used. It’s not big brother at all.
Finally an easy way to save!
Finally a simpler solution! Trying to get myself and my two children out the door in the morning is hard enough. I never remembered to set up my HOV status in the DriveOn app (until I’m entering the TEXpress Lane, of course). Now that I have GoCarma set up and Occupant Passes in my kids diaper bag, I will FINALLY be able to take advantage of the discount I should have been earning all along.

Awful app from Big Brother
You have to enable tracking on your phone and add an additional Bluetooth device in your glovebox. You also need to enable access to health and fitness activity. You also need to install the app on your children’s phones if you want the discount. Last thing I want to do is give random people access to my children’s location.
They basically remove all privacy and watch your family’s every move. Horrible support and application. Apple should ban them from the store with this BS.

Not Nervous
I’m always nervous when learning to use new technology, but GoCarma has made it pretty easy. The few questions I had were answered immediately by their support team. Looking forward to never having to remember to register for my discount again. Thanks, GoCarma!
